LCU Completes SAC Championships

SHAWNEE, Okla. (November 6, 2010) - Wayland Baptist captured both the men's and women's Sooner Athletic Conference cross country championships in Shawnee Saturday, with Lubbock Christian University finishing fourth on the men’s side and fifth on the women’s side.

Wayland Baptist won the women's race with the top three finishers and four of the top five, led by individual champion Milca Villegas in first with a time of 19:00.  WBU had 31 points, followed by Oklahoma Baptist with 45, Oklahoma Christian with 83, John Brown at 120, Lubbock Christian at 149, Southern Nazarene at 161, Rogers State at 184, Oklahoma City at 212, Northwestern Oklahoma State at 232 and Mid-America Christian at 257.

Joining Wayland Baptist in the national meet Nov. 20 in Vancouver, Wash., will be the top five runners not on winning team: Irene Masai of Oklahoma Christian, Aubrie Dolliver, Taylor Painter and Meredith Stroup of Oklahoma Baptist, and Erin Sesemann of Oklahoma Christian.

Additionally, the top 15 runners are named All-Conference. The All-SAC women's team is Villegas, Catherine Luebner of WBU, Jennifer Secrest of WBU, Masai, Diana Gutierrez of WBU, Dolliver, Painter, Stroup, Sesemann, Britney Shedd of Lubbock Christian, Kayla Lee of OBU, Valerie Kliewer of John Brown, Sarah Taylor of OBU, Nadia Majed of OBU and Melissa Roth of John Brown.

On the men's side Kennedy Kithuka of Wayland Baptist pulled away to beat defending NAIA champion Silas Kisorio of Oklahoma Christian at 22:45 for the men's individual title. Kisorio was second at 23:05.

Wayland Baptist won with 30 points, followed by Oklahoma Christian at 39, OBU at 73, Lubbock Christian at 120, Southern Nazarene at 157, Rogers State at 188, Oklahoma City at 200, John Brown at 201, Northwestern Oklahoma State at 236 and Mid-America Christian at 269.

Joining the Pioneers in Washington will be Kisorio, Geoffrey Njonjo of Oklahoma Christian, Cordell Baker of Oklahoma Baptist, David McWilliams of Oklahoma Christian and Brayden Barrientez of Oklahoma Christian.

Making All-SAC are Kithuka, Kisorio, Edward Taragon of WBU, Njonjo, Hildon Boen of WBU, Baker, Jordan Valle of WBU, McWilliams, Barrientez, Caleb Clark of Rogers State, Izzie Miranda of Lubbock Christian, Benson Chepkwony of Southern Nazarene, Nathan Ellis of OBU, Lucius Lopez of WBU and Brandon Dickinson of OBU.


Shedd Leads Lady Chap Runners

STILLWATER, Okla. (September 25, 2010) – Lubbock Christian University’s women’s cross country team participated in the 74th annual Cowboy Jamboree at Oklahoma State University and the Lady Chaparrals finished the 5k run in 21st among the field of 30 teams.

ABILENE, Texas (September 11, 2010) -  The Lubbock Christian University women’s cross country team opened the 2010 running season with a third place team finish at the Bill Libby Invitational hosted by McMurry University at Grover Nelson Park.
