ABOUT OC
The Lady Eagles have struggled this season with a 7-14 record and a 2-12 mark in SAC play. OC opened the season 3-0 with three games with at least 86 points of offense, but they have only produced four wins and have had only one game of at least 80 points of offense since (18 game stretch). Of their current eight-game losing streak, five of the losses have come at home. Despite the 7-14 mark, OC has some national recognition in the statistical rankings, as Katy Clift leads the NAIA with 63 three-pointers. She ranks third in treys per game (3) and her success has OC ranking fifth in the NAIA in three point field goals (171) and sixth in three-pointers per game (8.1). They also rank sixth in free-throw shooting (76%).

THE SERIES AGAINST OC
OC leads the all-time series 29-11 dating back to 1979. Despite trailing the all-time series, LCU has won seven of the last ten meetings.

THE LAST MEETING AGAINST OC
Feb. 17, 2011 - Oklahoma City - LCU 69 - OC 82
Then No.19 LCU had their nine-game win streak come to a crashing end, as the Lady Chaparrals suffered several offensive woes they could not overcome and fell 82-69 at Oklahoma Christian University in a Sooner Athletic Conference.

With 8:57 remaining in the opening half, April Ehlers gave LCU a 14-13 lead with a shot in the paint, but then everything went downhill. LCU went the next 8:53 without scoring a single point. OC took advantage of the LCU scoring drought going on a 20-0 run. The Lady Chaps were 0-of-15 during the scoreless sequence and committed six turnovers before Renee Wilson ended the dry spell with a basket with four seconds remaining in the half. LCU trailed 33-16 at the half.

In addition to the scoreless sequence, which the Lady Chaps could not overcome, LCU could not get a three-point shot to fall. They were unsuccessful on their first 17 three-point field goal attempts. Once Rachel Gray hit the Lady Chaps first three-pointer, the Lady Chaps made five of their final nine attempts. The three-pointers helped LCU close the deficit, but the closest they would get would turn out as the final score.

LCU finished the game 19.2% (5/26) from three-point range and 31.1% (23/74) overall from the field. They received 15 points from Renee Wilson and 12 points from Haley Burton. OC received an 18-rebound 13-point double-double from Katy OSteen and 20 points from Katy Clift. Mica Havens supplied OC with 18 points.

OC improved to 12-15 overall and 6-13 in the SAC, while LCU fell to 18-7 overall and 15-4 in the SAC. The Lady Chaps fell into third place in the SAC. They return to action Saturday at 1 p.m. in Alva, Okla. facing Northwestern Oklahoma State University

FUTURE FORECAST
LCU returns home next week to host Mid-America Christian on Thursday and Oklahoma City on Saturday.

OKLAHOMA CITY (January 30, 2011) - Nicole Hampton was rightfully rewarded for her historic...

OKLAHOMA CITY (January 30, 2011) - Nicole Hampton was rightfully rewarded for her historic accomplishment this week, as she was selected as the Sooner Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 23-29, giving LCU a string of four honorees in a row and all by different players.

Hampton, a freshman guard from Canyon, Texas, established an NAIA Div. I record by making her 60th consecutive free throw. The streak covers 13 games and she broke the record of 57 held by Jackie Weaver of Trevecca Nazarene. Hampton set the mark of 60 Saturday by going 6-for-6 from the line in a win over No. 16 Southern Nazarene. The streak is still intact. She averaged 13.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 3.5 steals on the week in wins over USAO and Southern Nazarene to help LCU extend their win streak to a program record 14 games.

An LCU player has received Player of the Week honors seven times this season. The last four and six of the last seven honors have been issued to Lady Chap players. Hampton becomes the third LCU player to claim the honor twice. Her first honor came in Week 6.

On the Record

LUBBOCK, Texas (January 28, 2012) - The No.9 Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals...

LUBBOCK, Texas (January 28, 2012) - The No.9 Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals rallied in the second half for a 59-53 win over No.16 Southern Nazarene University Saturday afternoon inside Rip Griffin Center to break a program record with a 14-game win streak. It was not the only record set in the NAIA Game of the Week, as LCU guard Nicole Hampton set the NAIA Women's Div. I record for consecutive free-throws made by notching 60 consecutive free-throws.

Hampton, a freshman from Canyon, Texas, helped keep the Lady Chaps Sooner Athletic Conference record clean (13-0) going 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. All six free-throws came in the final 4:06 of the contest, with her first trip coming with LCU leading 46-45. The record breaker came with 25 seconds remaining in the game during her second trip to the line. She not only extended the Lady Chaps lead to 57-51, but she tied the NAIA Women's Div. I record held by Jackie Weaver of Trevecca Nazarene (2005/2006) with her first free-throw attempt and then broke the record making the second free-throw of the trip. Hampton closed out the game making an additional two with a trip to the line as 17 seconds remained in the game. The mark of 60, which will continue into the Lady Chaps next contest, stands not only as a NAIA Women's Div. I record, but also as a NAIA single-season record in women's basketball. The NAIA and collegiate national record comes from the NAIA Div. II ranks, as Deb Remmerde of Northwestern College (Iowa) made 133 straight spanning two seasons (2006). The NCAA all-levels record and single-season mark is held by Jamey Gelhar of St. Martin's, as she connected on 78 consecutive attempts during the 2008/2009 season. The streak from Hampton started on Dec. 1st and has active through 13 games.

As for the game, the Lady Chaps had to rally in the second half after Southern Nazarene erased a 32-27 Lady Chaps lead with a 14-2 run highlighted by back-to-back three-point field goals from Samantha O'Shields with 10:56 remaining. LCU responded with a 14-4 run, which included an 8-0 run amidst the surge, and took a 48-45 lead with 4:06 left. O'Shields connected with her third three-pointer of the half with 3:16 left to tie the game at 48-48. SNU would go the next 2:44 without a field goal and LCU would go on a 7-1 run jumpstarted by an old-fashioned three-point play by Emily Atkins. The final nine LCU points came from the free-throw line.

The free-throw shooting for LCU was a little shaky. The NAIA leaders from the charity stripe were shooting 50% (6-of-12) from the line until they closed the game making all 12 of their free-throw attempts to finish the game 18-of-24 (75%). The 12-for-12 shooting performance came during the final 4:41 of the game, with six of the makes coming from Hampton.

The game marked just the fifth time this season and the first since Dec. 1 in which an opponent out-shot the Lady Chaps from the field (11-game span). The Lady Chaps were 35.1% (20/57) from the field in the game marking just the third time this season the Lady Chaps have shot less than 40%. LCU has not shot under 40% since the second game of the season.

Neither team was able to connect long range as successful as their numbers entering the game had indicated. The two teams combined to go 5-of-25 (20%) from long-range, with LCU connecting on just one of 10 attempts. Hampton hit the only LCU three-pointer. O'Shields was 3-for-3 from long-range for SNU, but the rest of her teammates combined to go 1-of-12.

LCU had four players contribute double figures offensively led by a 14-point and 14-rebound double-double from Kelsey Canavan. She was joined by April Ehlers (13 points), Hampton (11 points) and Atkins (11 points). Hampton had to rely on her free-throws to put her into double figures for a 15th consecutive game. SNU was led by Abbey Marra, who posted a double-double with 18 rebounds and 14 points.

The Lady Chaps improved their overall record to 15-3 by winning the battle that featured seven lead changes. SNU fell to 16-6 overall and 10-4 in the SAC. The contest was the final meeting between the two squads in a conference regular season setting, as SNU head to the NCAA Div. II ranks next season. LCU, winning all four games of their home stand, returns to the road Thursday and travels to Alva, Okla. for a 6 p.m. tip at Northwestern Oklahoma State University.

LUBBOCK, Texas (January 26, 2012) - Lubbock Christian University matched their program record...

LUBBOCK, Texas (January 26, 2012) - Lubbock Christian University matched their program record 13-game win streak Thursday night inside Rip Griffin Center, as all 10 Lady Chaparrals figured into the offense and No.9 Lubbock Christian University pulled away from a three-point second half lead to defeat University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma 89-49 in Sooner Athletic Conference action. The win, which keeps LCU alone atop the SAC standings with a perfect 12-0 mark, helps LCU match their program record 13-game win streak from the 1996/1997 season.

LCU jumped out early to a 26-10 lead in the first half, but USAO went on a 17-4 run later in the half and cut the LCU lead to 30-27 with 3:52 remaining in the half. The Lady Chaps were able to take a 37-31 lead into the halftime locker room, with a double-double in the half by Nicole Hampton (10 points and 10 rebounds). Kelsey Canavan was 7-of-9 from the field in the half for LCU to tally 14 points and match the production of Liberty Payne, who led USAO in the half with 14 points.

The Lady Chaps shot 53.3% (16/30) from the field in the second half and held USAO to a 28.6% clip (8/28). LCU was leading by three points early in the half, but then went on a 20-4 run to start pulling away. They took advantage of the inside play, as they had a 20-2 scoring advantage inside the paint. Brittany Roberts was 4-of-4 from the field in the half for LCU and lead the team in the half with 10 points. LCU, who did not have a free-throw attempt in the first half, went 16-of-18 from the charity stripe in the second half.

All 10 Lady Chaps in the lineup scored in the contest and in the second half. Included in the mix was a career-matching six points from Lena Kusic, career high four points from Shaley Shipman and a pair of points from Amanda Perry, who missed the past eight games with an injury. LCU, who-outscored USAO 40-12 in the paint, received a team-leading 18 points from Canavan. She was one of four Lady Chaps in double figures, as she was joined by Hampton (16 points and 11 rebounds), April Ehlers (13 points) and Roberts (12 points). The Lady Chaps out-rebounded USAO 46-24. Payne led USAO with a game high 19 points and they also received 12 points from Tashina Ototivo.

LCU is 15-3 overall with the victory, while USAO falls to 5-15 overall and 2-11 in the SAC. The Lady Chaps close out a four-game home stand Saturday hosting No.16 Southern Nazarene University in a contest the NAIA has labeled the NAIA Game of the Week.

OKLAHOMA CITY (January 23, 2012) - For a third consecutive week a member of the Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals was selected as the Sooner Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, as LCU forward Emily Atkins received the honor for the week of Jan. 16-22.

Atkins helped No.9 LCU extend their win streak to 12 games, their highest under head coach Steve Gomez, and they are a win away from matching their program mark from the 1996/1997 season. The sophomore from Crandall, Texas had back-to-back 25-point performances. She was 53.8% from the field on the week (14/26) and she was 18-of-20 (90%) from the free-throw line.
Dirty Dozen

LUBBOCK, Texas (January 21, 2011) - For a second consecutive game, Emily Atkins led all...

LUBBOCK, Texas (January 21, 2011) - For a second consecutive game, Emily Atkins led all scorers with 25 points and Nicole Hampton added a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds, as the duo led No.9 Lubbock Christian University to a 74-65 win over John Brown University in Sooner Athletic Conference play Saturday afternoon inside Rip Griffin Center. The win keeps LCU perfect (11-0) in SAC play and extends their win streak to 12 games.

Atkins exploded for 14 points in the first half and she helped LCU get off to a solid start. An 8-0 run when leading 13-9 helped LCU jump out to a 21-9 lead (with 11:43 remaining) and they closed the half on a 10-1 run to take a 39-22 lead into the half. Nicole Hampton also helped LCU in the half, as she had 12 points and eight rebounds in the half.

Despite a 22-14 scoring in the paint advantage in the second half, LCU was unable to cruise in the half. They would never extend the lead more than their 17-point margin to begin the half, and JBU chipped the lead under double figures on several occasions. With less than nine minutes remaining, Jessica Berlin hit a three-pointer to cut the LCU lead to 55-47, but LCU would eventually use a 6-0 run off a pair of Atkins buckets and a layup by Hampton to put the LCU lead at 64-49 with 5:24 remaining. Lauren Rogers scored all 11 of her points in the second half and Kortni Barenberg added 10 points in the half as well to make things interesting for the Golden Eagles. JBU shot 57.7% (15/26) from the field in the second half and hit five three pointers.

Hampton, who had her fifth double-double and matched a career high in rebounds, and Atkins were the only double-figure producers offensively for the Lady Chaps. The Lady Chaps shot 52.2% from the field (24/46) and had a 38-24 advantage in paint scoring. JBU received 17 points in the losing cause from Barenberg, who was one of four players in double figures for RSU. They also received 13 points from Sierra Shipley, 11 from Rogers and 10 from Chelsea Garrison. Atkins was 7-of-12 from the field for LCU and also hit three three-pointers. Along with her double-double, Hampton also had six steals to match a career high. She was 4-for-4 from the free-throw line to extend her streak of consecutive made free throws to 52. The NAIA record is 57 held by Jackie Weaver of Trevecca Nazarene from the 2005/2006 season.

LCU, 14-3 overall, is one win away from matching their program mark of 13 consecutive wins, which was set under head coach Miles Waters in the 1996/1997 season. Of their current 11-0 SAC record, LCU has only had three of their wins decided by single digits. Two have been against John Brown. The Golden Eagles fell to 9-11 overall and 3-9 in SAC play. LCU returns to action Thursday at 5:45 p.m. hosting University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma inside Rip Griffin Center.

LUBBOCK, Texas (January 19, 2011) - No.9 Lubbock Christian University closed their game on a 10-2 run and received 25 points from Emily Atkins, as the Lady Chaparrals extended their win streak to 11 games with an 87-70 victory over Rogers State University Thursday night in Sooner Athletic Conference play inside Rip Griffin Center. The 11-game win streak is the longest under ninth-year head coach Steve Gomez for the Lady Chaps.

The game opened up as a three-point contest, as the teams combined for five three-pointers off the first five field goals made. The Hillcats jumped out to a 6-1 lead early, but LCU eventually rebounded with a 7-0 run to take a 20-15 lead. After the Hillcats tied the game at 22-22, LCU went on an 11-0 run for a 33-22 advantage. The Lady Chaps received 10 points from Brittany Roberts in the half and it helped LCU take a 45-33 halftime lead.

The two teams mostly traded baskets in the second half. The lead never exceeded more than a 16 point advantage for LCU and it did not get into single digits until a Leah Smith three-pointer for RSU with 3:42 remaining made the score 77-68. That is when LCU responded closing the game on a 10-2 run.

Smith led RSU with 17 points, with 14 coming in the second half. They also had a double-double from Gianna Woods, who had 16 points and 13 rebounds. Atkins, who produced 18 points in the second half, led a foursome of players that finished in double figures for LCU. Kelsey Canavan set a career high with 15 rebounds to go along with 16 points for her fourth double-double of the season. Nicole Hampton had her 12th consecutive game of at least 10 points, finishing with 16 points. She went 6-for-6 from the free-throw line to extend her program record streak of consecutive free-throws made to 48. Roberts finished with 15 points.

The Lady Chaps dominated the boards, out-rebounding RSU 47-31. They also out-scored RSU 36-20 in points in the paint and 35-12 in points from the line. LCU is now 10-0 in SAC play and 13-3 overall. It is their longest win streak since winning a program record 13 straight under Miles Waters in the 1996/1997 season. Rogers fell to 12-7 overall and 6-5 in the SAC, as the loss ended a three-game win streak. LCU remains home Saturday to host John Brown at 1 p.m. inside Rip Griffin Center.

OKLAHOMA CITY (January 16, 2012) - The Sooner Athletic Conference announced their Player of the Week honors and Lubbock Christian University guard Brittany Roberts was selected as the Women’s Player of the Week for Jan. 9-15.

LCU is off to a school record 9-0 conference start and they are riding a 10-game win streak. Brittany Roberts has aided LCU in their success and had key role in a pair of road wins last week, including a 22-point victory at No.1 Oklahoma City. She matched a game high 19 points at Oklahoma City and followed it with a 23 point performance at Mid-America Christian.
