ABOUT OC
The Eagles enter the week winners of their last two games and four of their prior five games. OC, 14-7 overall and 8-6 in the SAC, is 9-3 at home and they open up the week hosting Wayland Baptist Thursday. Their contest against LCU is the third game of a four game home stand. Following the home stand, the Eagles will play just one of their final five games at home.

THE SERIES AGAINST OC
The all-time series dates back to 1971 and OC leads the rivalry 35-17. The Eagles swept the Chaps in the season series last season.

THE LAST MEETING AGAINST OC
Feb. 17, 2011 - Oklahoma City - LCU 69 - OC 82
If one of the Chaparrals 28 missed three-point field goal attempts would have went in, it could have been a different outcome in their Sooner Athletic Conference tilt at Oklahoma Christian University. LCU had their five-game win streak come to an end despite a double-double from Kenny Hewitt (21 points, 10 rebounds), as Oklahoma Christian held off the Chaparrals 62-59.

LCU could not get into an offensive rhythm early in the game, as they shot just 22.2% (8/36) from the field in the first half. They made their first two three-point attempts, but finished the half 2-of-18 from long range (11.1%). Oklahoma Christian led 30-22 at the half, but they faced some shooting woes as well in the first half, going 2-of-11 (18.2%) from three-point range.

The Chaps would end up missing their first four three-point attempts in the second half, marking 20 consecutive three-point misses until they finally ended the dry spell from beyond the arc. OC led throughout the second half but not without dodging several LCU rallies. They had a 36-26 lead slip away, as LCU cut the deficit to 39-38 with a 12-3 run. The Chaps tied the game at 49-49, but the Eagles answered back with a 10-0 run to place the score at 59-49 with five minutes remaining.

LCU attempted a late rally, trailing 62-54, by not allowing a point over the game's final three minutes. Al Duvall made a three-pointer with 35 seconds remaining to cut the Chaps deficit to 62-59. Kendre Talley was fouled and missed both free-throws with 24 seconds to go, providing life for the Chaps. LCU put the ball into the hands of Matt Read, who was unable to hit the equalizer from the right corner with two seconds remaining.

Will Reinke led OC with 18 points and 12 doubles. Eric Randall also added 18 for the Eagles, recording all his offensive damage in the second half.

OKLAHOMA CITY (February 4, 2012) - No.7 Lubbock Christian University seeks a 15th consecutive win Saturday, and to stay atop the Sooner Athletic Conference standings, as they face Oklahoma Christian University at 1 p.m. inside The Eagle's Nest. LCU enters the game 17-3 overall and 14-0 in the SAC, while OC is 7-15 overall and 2-13 in conference. WATCH ONLINE / ONLINE AUDIO LINK / LIVE SCORING / GAME NOTES / RADIO: KKAM 1340 AM

ABOUT OC
The Lady Eagles have struggled this season with a 7-14 record and a 2-12 mark in SAC play. OC opened the season 3-0 with three games with at least 86 points of offense, but they have only produced four wins and have had only one game of at least 80 points of offense since (18 game stretch). Of their current eight-game losing streak, five of the losses have come at home. Despite the 7-14 mark, OC has some national recognition in the statistical rankings, as Katy Clift leads the NAIA with 63 three-pointers. She ranks third in treys per game (3) and her success has OC ranking fifth in the NAIA in three point field goals (171) and sixth in three-pointers per game (8.1). They also rank sixth in free-throw shooting (76%).

THE SERIES AGAINST OC
OC leads the all-time series 29-11 dating back to 1979. Despite trailing the all-time series, LCU has won seven of the last ten meetings.

THE LAST MEETING AGAINST OC
Feb. 17, 2011 - Oklahoma City - LCU 69 - OC 82
Then No.19 LCU had their nine-game win streak come to a crashing end, as the Lady Chaparrals suffered several offensive woes they could not overcome and fell 82-69 at Oklahoma Christian University in a Sooner Athletic Conference.

With 8:57 remaining in the opening half, April Ehlers gave LCU a 14-13 lead with a shot in the paint, but then everything went downhill. LCU went the next 8:53 without scoring a single point. OC took advantage of the LCU scoring drought going on a 20-0 run. The Lady Chaps were 0-of-15 during the scoreless sequence and committed six turnovers before Renee Wilson ended the dry spell with a basket with four seconds remaining in the half. LCU trailed 33-16 at the half.

In addition to the scoreless sequence, which the Lady Chaps could not overcome, LCU could not get a three-point shot to fall. They were unsuccessful on their first 17 three-point field goal attempts. Once Rachel Gray hit the Lady Chaps first three-pointer, the Lady Chaps made five of their final nine attempts. The three-pointers helped LCU close the deficit, but the closest they would get would turn out as the final score.

LCU finished the game 19.2% (5/26) from three-point range and 31.1% (23/74) overall from the field. They received 15 points from Renee Wilson and 12 points from Haley Burton. OC received an 18-rebound 13-point double-double from Katy OSteen and 20 points from Katy Clift. Mica Havens supplied OC with 18 points.

OC improved to 12-15 overall and 6-13 in the SAC, while LCU fell to 18-7 overall and 15-4 in the SAC. The Lady Chaps fell into third place in the SAC. They return to action Saturday at 1 p.m. in Alva, Okla. facing Northwestern Oklahoma State University

FUTURE FORECAST
LCU returns home next week to host Mid-America Christian on Thursday and Oklahoma City on Saturday.

Chaps Claim Opening Knight

CEDAR HILL, Texas (February 3, 2012) - No.4 Lubbock Christian University used a seven-run...

CEDAR HILL, Texas (February 3, 2012) - No.4 Lubbock Christian University used a seven-run eighth inning to break open a 3-3 tie and it was enough to hold off No.24 Northwood University (Texas), who closed the game with five unanswered runs, as the Chaparrals opened the 2012 season with a 10-8 win Saturday afternoon from Knights Field.

The Knights had just tied the game at 3-3 with a solo home run from Isaac Maturino in the bottom of the seventh inning when the Chaps went on their offensive surge in the eighth inning. Knights reliever Keaton Parcell had lost rhythm hitting Benny Woodard to lead off the inning and following it with a four-pitch walk to Ryan Burnaman, which included a pair of wild pitches to advance Woodard. In came sidearm lefty Bryan Kinard and he surrendered four runs off a single from Karl Seiter, double from Richard Bohlken and a two-run double by Jason Fisch before recording the first out of the inning. Ryan Gunhouse reached on an error to prolong the inning and it led to a two-out bases loaded double by Woodard in his second at-bat of the inning to clear the bases.

Northwood, trailing 10-3 did not back down. Edwin Arroyo, who finished a single shy of the cycle, led off the eighth inning with a double, as part of a two-run inning, and then made things interesting with a two-out two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth to cut the LCU lead to 10-7. Austin Atwell followed with a double off the centerfield wall and in came Burnaman to attempt to claim the save on the mound. The Chaps saves leader from a season ago gave up a run-scoring single to Adam Humes to place the tying run at the plate in clean-up hitter Deric Hawkins. In one pitch, Burnaman was able to get Hawkins to ground out to second base to stamp the win and claim his first save of the season.

18 runs were scored in the game and 14 were scored in the final three innings. Left handers Tyler Rogers of LCU and Texas Christian transfer Teddy Nowell of Northwood had a solid pitchers dual going to open the game. Rogers went five innings and allowed a solo homer from Atwell in the first inning for the only hit allowed. He struck out seven of the 18 batters faced. Nowell went six innings and allowed two runs off eight hits and struck out eight Chaps.

Kyle Forsyth claimed the win in relief for LCU and opens the season 1-0. Parcell took the loss for Northwood (0-1). Each team went through four pitchers. Offensively, the Chaps received a solid afternoon from Bohlken. The Preseason All-American went 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles and an RBI. Fisch produced the lone Chaps home run of the game with a two-run homer in the second inning and finished 3-for-5 with four RBI.

The Chaps (1-0) and Knights (0-1) continue their season opening three-game series Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at noon from Knights Field.

ALVA, Okla. (February 2, 2012) - It was an ugly ending for Lubbock Christian University, in an...

ALVA, Okla. (February 2, 2012) - It was an ugly ending for Lubbock Christian University, in an important Sooner Athletic Conference contest Thursday night at Percefull Fieldhouse, but they were able to hold onto a 70-59 lead with 1:32 remaining and get out with a 76-73 victory over Northwestern Oklahoma State University. It marks the sixth consecutive game the Chaps have played in decided by five or fewer points.

LCU entered the game leading the NAIA in free-throw shooting and were coming off their best shooting performance of the season (19/20 for 95% Saturday against Southern Nazarene), but they would end up with their season low from the line. The Chaps went the final 1:56 without a field goal and were put to the line to seal the win with an 11-point lead. The Chaps, who went 6-of-14 from the line in the final half, went 6-of-7 from the line in the final 1:56. NWOSU had 14 points in the final 1:31 and had a chance to tie the game with under 20 seconds remaining, but they couldn't make the free-throw on an and-one play. As for LCU, they went a miserable 7-of-18 (38.9%) from the line.

The Chaps were also without Rashad Sample for the final 36 seconds after he fouled with 17 points and eight rebounds. LCU was led by Douglas Williams, who was 4-of-7 from beyond the arch and led all scorers with 21 points. The Chaps senior had his career best as a sophomore in Alva with 28 points two seasons ago. LCU nailed 11 three-pointers with Tyler Kennedy (3) and Williams combining for seven of them. Jeff Ayisire tallied 10 points for LCU and Ricky Roberts produced a career best 10 rebounds. NWOSU received 16 points each from Daryl Glover and Jonathan Freemyer in the loss.

The win for LCU places them at 7-7 in the SAC and 11-10 overall, while NWOSU falls to 10-12 overal and 7-8 in conference. It was a valuable win for LCU, as they are just the second SAC team to win in Alva this season. Oklahoma Baptist and non-conference for Our Lady of the Lake are a pair of top-five teams in the NAIA and neither were able to get a win at NWOSU this season. The Chaps can cap an important week with a win Saturday, as they face Oklahoma Christian University at 3 p.m.

ALVA, Okla. (February 2, 2012) - The No. 7 Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals received 17 points from Kelsey Canavan and the team swiped 12 steals to extend their win streak to 15 games and defeat Northwestern Oklahoma State University 72-52 Thursday night in Sooner Athletic Conference play at Percefull Fieldhouse.

The Lady Rangers opened the game with the first bucket of the game, but their lone lead of the game would quickly be snatched away by a 14-2 LCU run. The Lady Chaps went 14/29 (48.3%) from the field in the half and received 10 points from Canavan and April Ehlers in the half. They took a 36-20 lead into the half.

LCU cruised in the second half en rout to the win by outscoring NWOSU 36-32 in the half. Canavan led all scorers with 17 points and was one of four Lady Chaps in double figures. Ehlers and Kelsey Hoppel produced 12 points each and Brittany Roberts posted 15 points. Nicole Hampton extended her NAIA record of consecutive made free-throws to 62 with a pair of free-throws, but she did see one streak come to an end. She was held to six points snapping a 15-game stretch in which she had posted at least 10 points in a game. Hampton did set a career mark with 13 rebounds. NWOSU was led in the losing effort by Audrey Richmond, who led NWOSU with 14 points.

OKLAHOMA CITY (January 30, 2011) - Nicole Hampton was rightfully rewarded for her historic accomplishment this week, as she was selected as the Sooner Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 23-29, giving LCU a string of four honorees in a row and all by different players.

Hampton, a freshman guard from Canyon, Texas, established an NAIA Div. I record by making her 60th consecutive free throw. The streak covers 13 games and she broke the record of 57 held by Jackie Weaver of Trevecca Nazarene. Hampton set the mark of 60 Saturday by going 6-for-6 from the line in a win over No. 16 Southern Nazarene. The streak is still intact. She averaged 13.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 3.5 steals on the week in wins over USAO and Southern Nazarene to help LCU extend their win streak to a program record 14 games.

An LCU player has received Player of the Week honors seven times this season. The last four and six of the last seven honors have been issued to Lady Chap players. Hampton becomes the third LCU player to claim the honor twice. Her first honor came in Week 6.

On the Record

LUBBOCK, Texas (January 28, 2012) - The No.9 Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals...

LUBBOCK, Texas (January 28, 2012) - The No.9 Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals rallied in the second half for a 59-53 win over No.16 Southern Nazarene University Saturday afternoon inside Rip Griffin Center to break a program record with a 14-game win streak. It was not the only record set in the NAIA Game of the Week, as LCU guard Nicole Hampton set the NAIA Women's Div. I record for consecutive free-throws made by notching 60 consecutive free-throws.

Hampton, a freshman from Canyon, Texas, helped keep the Lady Chaps Sooner Athletic Conference record clean (13-0) going 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. All six free-throws came in the final 4:06 of the contest, with her first trip coming with LCU leading 46-45. The record breaker came with 25 seconds remaining in the game during her second trip to the line. She not only extended the Lady Chaps lead to 57-51, but she tied the NAIA Women's Div. I record held by Jackie Weaver of Trevecca Nazarene (2005/2006) with her first free-throw attempt and then broke the record making the second free-throw of the trip. Hampton closed out the game making an additional two with a trip to the line as 17 seconds remained in the game. The mark of 60, which will continue into the Lady Chaps next contest, stands not only as a NAIA Women's Div. I record, but also as a NAIA single-season record in women's basketball. The NAIA and collegiate national record comes from the NAIA Div. II ranks, as Deb Remmerde of Northwestern College (Iowa) made 133 straight spanning two seasons (2006). The NCAA all-levels record and single-season mark is held by Jamey Gelhar of St. Martin's, as she connected on 78 consecutive attempts during the 2008/2009 season. The streak from Hampton started on Dec. 1st and has active through 13 games.

As for the game, the Lady Chaps had to rally in the second half after Southern Nazarene erased a 32-27 Lady Chaps lead with a 14-2 run highlighted by back-to-back three-point field goals from Samantha O'Shields with 10:56 remaining. LCU responded with a 14-4 run, which included an 8-0 run amidst the surge, and took a 48-45 lead with 4:06 left. O'Shields connected with her third three-pointer of the half with 3:16 left to tie the game at 48-48. SNU would go the next 2:44 without a field goal and LCU would go on a 7-1 run jumpstarted by an old-fashioned three-point play by Emily Atkins. The final nine LCU points came from the free-throw line.

The free-throw shooting for LCU was a little shaky. The NAIA leaders from the charity stripe were shooting 50% (6-of-12) from the line until they closed the game making all 12 of their free-throw attempts to finish the game 18-of-24 (75%). The 12-for-12 shooting performance came during the final 4:41 of the game, with six of the makes coming from Hampton.

The game marked just the fifth time this season and the first since Dec. 1 in which an opponent out-shot the Lady Chaps from the field (11-game span). The Lady Chaps were 35.1% (20/57) from the field in the game marking just the third time this season the Lady Chaps have shot less than 40%. LCU has not shot under 40% since the second game of the season.

Neither team was able to connect long range as successful as their numbers entering the game had indicated. The two teams combined to go 5-of-25 (20%) from long-range, with LCU connecting on just one of 10 attempts. Hampton hit the only LCU three-pointer. O'Shields was 3-for-3 from long-range for SNU, but the rest of her teammates combined to go 1-of-12.

LCU had four players contribute double figures offensively led by a 14-point and 14-rebound double-double from Kelsey Canavan. She was joined by April Ehlers (13 points), Hampton (11 points) and Atkins (11 points). Hampton had to rely on her free-throws to put her into double figures for a 15th consecutive game. SNU was led by Abbey Marra, who posted a double-double with 18 rebounds and 14 points.

The Lady Chaps improved their overall record to 15-3 by winning the battle that featured seven lead changes. SNU fell to 16-6 overall and 10-4 in the SAC. The contest was the final meeting between the two squads in a conference regular season setting, as SNU head to the NCAA Div. II ranks next season. LCU, winning all four games of their home stand, returns to the road Thursday and travels to Alva, Okla. for a 6 p.m. tip at Northwestern Oklahoma State University.
