Coaching & Basketball Philosophy
>A Note from Coach Gomez about His Coaching Philosophy

"My philosophy of coaching is a direct reflection of the things that are most important to me – my faith, my family and a passion for competition. As a result of my faith in a God who embodies the perfect balance of justice and love, my main desire as a person and coach is to live as an example of those characteristics. Secondly, because of my love and enjoyment of family, and realizing how similar a team is to a family, I want to help in building lasting relationships – coach to player and player to player – while providing an environment for individuals to improve athletically, academically and spiritually. I want all involved in our basketball program to have a full understanding of success, which will ultimately be measured by the quality and influence of our lives and not only by the result of a single performance or season. I hope to instill self-discipline and a healthy competitive spirit in each of our players as I strive to encourage and bring out the best character traits and physical abilities that each one possesses."

Program Philosophy

The Lady Chap basketball program will be built on the development of character and teamwork through spiritual, emotional, and physical improvement. Coaches will model and expect a tremendous work ethic from each player while providing positive discipline through evaluation and communication. In addition to developing concern for each other and enthusiasm for the game, the Lady Chaps will pursue academic excellence as they prepare for life after graduation. Each member of the team will commit to involvement in the overall life of Lubbock Christian University and the representation of LCU through community service.

Defensive Philosophy

All defenses will be built on the foundation of transition and communication, ball pressure, foot and hand movement, playing open to the ball to provide early help, and team movement in the direction of the ball. The Lady Chaps will use multiple defenses to disrupt opponents and complete possessions with aggressive rebounding.

Offensive Philosophy

All offenses will be built on solid fundamentals, decision making, and unselfish play. The Lady Chaps will transition aggressively to create high percentage shots early in the possession and to get the ball in the lane either by post feeding or penetration in addition to running various offenses and set plays effectively in order to maximize personnel.
