Allysa Deutch Scoring the First Goal In Program History
By: Chris Due
LUBBOCK, Texas (August 28, 2010) – The last time Lubbock Christian University started a new athletic program was in 2008, with the debut of softball. The first game in program history turned out to be a memorable contest with LCU shutting out University of the Southwest (N.M.) with a no-hitter being thrown. Saturday, LCU’s new women’s soccer program made its debut and ironically University of the Southwest was the opponent. The Lady Chaparrals received six second-half goals and opened their season at LCU Soccer Field with a 9-0 shutout victory.
The Lady Chaps dominated the entire 90 minutes of play, out-shooting the Mustangs 32-4 in the game. Odessa native Allysa Deutsch had the honor of scoring the first goal in program history by putting a shot past goalkeeper Jessika Caudel into the right side 11:40 into the game. Kaylyn Settle and Stephanie Helbert also added goals before the half. Two minutes into the second half, Misty Sides banked a shot off the right post to extend the lead to 4-0. Whitley Gillit scored off a corner kick from Settle before Peta-Gaye Soman and Amber Brown-Longoria each finished the game with a pair of goals. Soman finished the match with a pair of goals and a pair of assists.
Lacy Burress (1-0) started in net for LCU and made one save on the only Mustang shot-on-goal. Berkeley Albracht was in net for the final 27:45, but the Lady Chaps goalkeeper was never challenged.
The game was the season opener for both teams. LCU improves to 1-0, while USW drops to 0-1. The Lady Chaps return to action Wednesday at 1 p.m. at McMurry University in Abilene.
