Lady Chaps Tied For Ninth in SAC Poll
By: Ray Fink (SAC) / Chris Due (LCU)
OKLAHOMA CITY (August 11, 2010) - Considering the fact Lubbock Christian University has not played a soccer game in program history, one would expect to see the Lady Chaparrals at the bottom of the Sooner Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Preseason Coaches’ Poll, but it wasn’t actually the case Wednesday when the polls were announced. The Lady Chaparrals, gearing up for their inaugural season, are ranked tied for ninth in the 12-team conference.
John Brown University, which finished in a tie atop the Sooner Athletic Conference last season, is the SAC coaches’ pick to win the women’s soccer title this season.
The SAC Preseason Poll, released Wednesday, has the Golden Eagles atop a poll that scattered first-place votes among four teams. John Brown was 9-1 in the SAC last season and 12-6 overall. JBU collected four of 12 first-place votes and finished with 107 points in the poll.
Oklahoma City is the runner-up in the poll, collecting 102 points and two first-place votes after an 11-7-1 season in 2009.
USAO has one first-place votes and had 100 points in the poll on the heels of a 13-6 2009 campaign.
Southern Nazarene drew the most interesting response. After tying JBU at 9-1 in the SAC and 17-4-1 a year ago, SNU collected the most first-place votes with five, but coaches were divided on the Crimson Storm and the team finished fourth with 94 points.
Oklahoma Baptist (12-7 in 2009) is fifth with 79 points, followed by Rogers State (13-7) with 74 and Oklahoma Christian (9-6-3) with 67.
Mid-America Christian is ranked eighth with 64 points, followed by Lubbock Christian and St. Gregory’s tied for ninth at 28. Northwestern Oklahoma State is 11th with 27 points and Wayland Baptist rounds out the poll in 12th with 22 points.
