LCU Leads After Two Rounds

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. - Lubbock Christian (Texas) moved to the top of the leaderboard after firing a 302 in the Second Round of the 2011 NAIA Women’s Golf National Championships at Link Hills Country Club Wednesday. The Lady Chaps have a two-round total of 325-302—627 for a one-stroke advantage on Embry-Riddle (Fla.), 323-305—628. Shorter (Ga.) moved up two spots to third (326-305—631) and is followed California Baptist (319-314—633) and British Columbia (321-312—633), who are tied for fourth.

Kylie Barros of British Columbia continues to lead all individuals by two strokes at 73-74—147. California Baptist’s defending national champion Natalie Silva moved into sole possession of second place after posting an even round of 73. The lowest score recorded through two rounds was carded by Jamie Palermo of William Woods (Mo.) with a 4-under-par 69, who concluded her first 18 holes Wednesday morning. She then went for an 8-over-par 81 in her second round to finish with a 150 to sit in third. Danielle Bellet of Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) and Embry-Riddle’s (Fla.) Fabys Barreto-Guzman are tied for fourth with 5-over-par 151s.

Nine different programs are represented throughout the top-10 individual standings, with a pair of golfers hailing from Embry-Riddle and Shorter.

The Third Round of play at Link Hills Country Club opens Thursday at 7:30 a.m. EDT with Lee (Tenn.), Lindenwood (Mo.) and South Carolina – Beaufort off of No. 1. Wayland Baptist (Texas), Ashford (Iowa) and Tennessee Wesleyan begin their third round starting on the back nine at 8 a.m.

Lubbock Christian, Embry-Riddle and Shorter will take to the first tee box at 1:50 p.m.
