LCU Claims Third at WNMU Event

ALBUQUERQUE (March 21, 2011) – The No.13 Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals were the only non NCAA Div. II members competing in the Western New Mexico University Mustang Invitational, and they finished in third place with two top-five finishers.  Shelby Hill finished in third place and Sinae Montoya finished in fourth for the Lady Chaparrals.

The Lady Chaps followed an opening round 323 with a 309 to match the lowest second round team score of the tournament.  LCU’s 632 team score was the third best team score of the tournament behind a 621 by Belmont Abbey College and a 627 by No.13 Western New Mexico (NCAA Div.II rankings).

Hill shot a 77 in each of her two rounds for a total of 154, which was two strokes off individual champion Jessica Dailleboust of WNMU.  Montoya finished a stroke back of Hill with a 155.  She followed a 79 with a team-best second round score of 76.  Anna Schopp finished tied for 12th with a 160 (81,79).  Also competing for LCU was Macalee Lane (88,77=165), who finished tied for 22nd, and Kelsey Inman (86,81=167), who finished tied for 27th.

The tournament was played at University of New Mexico Championship Golf Course on a par-72 5,858-yard layout.  Eleven teams competed in the tournament with LCU joining ten NCAA Div. II members.
