Lady Chaps Battle The Cold

SALADO, Texas (February 22, 2010) – No. 10 Lubbock Christian University opened their spring season finishing in third place at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor’s Lady Cru Spring Invitational, 36 strokes behind winner, Western Texas Community College. LCU did finish ahead of Sooner Athletic Conference foe Oklahoma Baptist University, the only other NAIA team in the nine-team field. Sinae Montoya, a freshman from Lubbock, finished in third place of the individual standings.
All five players from LCU finished in the top 25, topped by Montoya’s 160 (80-80) two-round total. Macalee Lane, an individualist in the tournament, finished in a seventh place with a two-round total of 171 (90-81). Rachel Dansby finished in a tie for 11th place, shooting an 88 in each round for a total of 176. Anna Schopp and Kelsey Inman finished in a tie for 14th place. Schopp shot 88-90 for a total of 178. Inman shot 85-93 for a total of 178. Kierston Pack finished in a tie for 22nd with a two-round total of 185 (94-91).
Montoya led the field with birdies on the tournament with 5. She also finished second in par-4 scoring with +7. She also shot the third best round of each day, behind the first and second place finishers. Jessica Schiele of Redland Community College won the event on the frigid par-73 5,873-yard layout of Mill Creek Golf Course.
The tournament was shortened to one day due to concerns about cold weather moving into Central Texas. The Lady Chaps will play their next tournament at the Spring Break Collegiate tournament March 8-9 in Primm, Nev.
