Championship Heads Into Final Round

RAPID CITY, S.D. (May 28, 2010) – The Lady Chaparrals of Lubbock Christian University had a tough time in the third round of the NAIA National Championship, but they still remain in the top-five heading into Friday’s final round at Meadowbrook Golf Course. CHAMPIONSHIP SITE
The Lady Chaps, who have never finished better than sixth in program history, fell from third place Thursday after shooting a team score of 324, which is their highest round of the tournament and a 13 stroke increase from their second round score. Anna Schopp entered the third round co-leading the tournament, but she turned in an 84 Thursday and fell into a share of tenth place on the 6000-yard par 72 layout. The best round for the Lady Chaps was by Sinae Montoya, who is tied for 25th with a three-round score of 237 after she shot a 78 for a second consecutive round. Three strokes back is Rachael Dansby, who is tied for 39th after carding an 80 for a three-round total of 240. Kiersten Pack had the biggest improvement in the third round for LCU as she posted an 82 after posting an 86 Wednesday. She is tied for 74th with a 253. Macalee Lane fell to a tie for 53rd after shooting an 85 Thursday and has a 245 total.
LCU’s team score of 952 in the tournament has them three strokes behind Embry-Riddle (Fla.) and four strokes ahead of Lindsey Wilson (Ky.). British Columbia University leads the event with a 923. The top individual leader is Nathalie Silva of California Baptist, who is shooting 225, with an average round of 75.
