LCU Braves To Finish Fourth

By: Chris Due

DALLAS (October 18, 2011) - The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals golf team battled the elements among the 16-team field at the Dallas Baptist University Classic and finished in fourth place at The Golf Club of Dallas.

LCU shot a 305 in the opening round, but a cold front and showers moved in Tuesday night and the high winds it brought along plagued play for the entire field on the par-72 5,865-yard layout.  The Lady Chaps shot a 319 in the second round to finish a stroke ahead of both Grand Valley State and Tarleton State and four strokes behind third place Midwestern State.

Rachel Dansby led LCU with a share of 13th place.  She co-led LCU with an opening round 74 and finished with an 80 for a 154.  Macalee Lane was three places back in a share of 16th with a 155 after following an opening round 78 with a second round team best 77.  Sinae Montoya duplicated a score of 79 for a 158 and a share of 28th place.  Anna Schopp co-led LCU in the opening round with a 74 but carded an 85 in the final round for a 161 and a tie for 39th.  Shelbye Hill rounded out the Lady Chaps with a tie for 43rd with a 162 (79,83).  Playing individually for LCU was Savanna Stavinoha, who shot a 186 (90,96) for 82nd place.

Host Dallas Baptist University won the event with a team score of 616 (303, 313).  Sarah Hoffman of Grand Valley State won the individual title with a 146 (69, 77) among the field of 86 golfers.  LCU was the top finishing NAIA school out of just two NAIA programs that competed in the field with 14 NCAA Div. II programs.
