Six LCU Programs Honored

LUBBOCK, Texas (July 28, 2010) - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) recognized a record 857 teams as 2009-10 NAIA Scholar Teams and Lubbock Christian University was honored as having six Scholar Teams, led by the volleyball program, which produced a 3.57 team grade point average.

The 3.57 GPA tied for 40th on the list of recognized teams.   LCU's volleyball program ranked tied for seventh among all volleyball programs.  The Lady Chaps women's cross country program produced a 3.44 GPA, which was second among LCU’s programs. Women’s basketball (3.41), women’s golf (3.31) and men’s golf (3.18) each ranked in the top-25 amongst their sport academically.  LCU softball was also recognized with a 3.11 GPA. 

LCU ranked third in the Sooner Athletic Conference with six teams recognized behind Oklahoma Christian and Oklahoma City University.  OC was recognized with 12 teams receiving scholar team recognition. Iowa Wesleyan University’s volleyball program led the national list with a 3.82 GPA.  Teams had to produce at least a 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) to be considered for the honor by the NAIA.
