Lady Chaps Make It Ten Straight

OKLAHOMA CITY (January 14, 2012) - Brittany Roberts had 24 points to lead four Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals in double figures and the No.12 Lady Chaparrals matched a season high with 12 three-pointers en route to a 92-59 Sooner Athletic Conference victory Saturday afternoon to extend their win streak to 10 games and remain perfect (9-0) in conference play.
Emily Atkins led LCU in the opening half with 11 points and helped LCU jump out early. The Lady Chaps never trailed in the contest, jumping out to a 12-3 lead to start the game. They eventually took a 48-27 halftime lead with seven players involved in the first half scoring.
The Lady Chaps did not look back in the second half. They shot 60.9% (14/23) from the field in the second half and 6-of-9 (66.7%) from beyond the arc. LCU never let the lead slip under 20 in the second half. Roberts posted 13 points in the second half, with eight coming from the free-throw line.
Atkins, who finished with 19 points, nailed four of the Lady Chaps 12 three-pointers. Six different players were successful on three-point attempts, including Shaley Shipman, who hit her first three of her career (appearing in her tenth game of her career). Roberts and Atkins were joined in double figures by Kelsey Canavan (15 points) and Nicole Hampton (11 points). Canavan and Hampton just missed out on double-doubles, as Canavan led with nine rebounds and Hampton led with nine assists. The Lady Chaps finished the game 55.2% (32/58) from the field and 12-of-21 (57.1%) from long range, while they held MACU to 37.5% (21/56) from the field and 25% (5-of-20) from three-point range. LCU had a 38-29 rebounding advantage in the win as well. MACU was led with an 18-point outing by Nicole Wittman.
Hampton set a Lady Chaps record in the game, as she went 3-for-3 from the free-throw line and has made a record 43 consecutive free-throws since Dec. 1. The prior record was held by her sister Roberts, who made 41 straight last season. The NAIA record is 53 consecutive free-throws.
The Lady Chaps improved to 12-3 overall on the season with the win and it was their tenth straight victory. LCU remains atop the SAC with a 9-0 conference mark. MACU falls to 2-8 in SAC play and they evened their overall record at 8-8. LCU returns home to host Rogers State University Thursday at 5:45 p.m. inside Rip Griffin Center.
