Streak Reaches 15

ALVA, Okla. (February 2, 2012) - The No. 7 Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals received 17 points from Kelsey Canavan and the team swiped 12 steals to extend their win streak to 15 games and defeat Northwestern Oklahoma State University 72-52 Thursday night in Sooner Athletic Conference play at Percefull Fieldhouse.
The Lady Rangers opened the game with the first bucket of the game, but their lone lead of the game would quickly be snatched away by a 14-2 LCU run. The Lady Chaps went 14/29 (48.3%) from the field in the half and received 10 points from Canavan and April Ehlers in the half. They took a 36-20 lead into the half.
LCU cruised in the second half en rout to the win by outscoring NWOSU 36-32 in the half. Canavan led all scorers with 17 points and was one of four Lady Chaps in double figures. Ehlers and Kelsey Hoppel produced 12 points each and Brittany Roberts posted 15 points. Nicole Hampton extended her NAIA record of consecutive made free-throws to 62 with a pair of free-throws, but she did see one streak come to an end. She was held to six points snapping a 15-game stretch in which she had posted at least 10 points in a game. Hampton did set a career mark with 13 rebounds. NWOSU was led in the losing effort by Audrey Richmond, who led NWOSU with 14 points.
The win improves LCU to 17-3 overall and 14-0 in the SAC, while NWOSU falls to 10-10 overall and 7-8 in conference play. The Lady Chaps head to Oklahoma City Saturday to face Oklahoma Christian University, who is seeking to end a nine-game losing skid. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
