No Case Of The Mondays for LCU

CHICKASHA, Okla. (January 2, 2012) - Kelsey Canavan produced a career high 22 points and freshman Nicole Hampton contributed her second double-double of the season with 11 points and 12 rebounds to help No.17 Lubbock Christian University cruise to a 90-58 Sooner Athletic Conference road win over University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma.

The Lady Chaps exploded with 45 points in the first half, with three players posting double figures in points in the half.  They were 7-of-14 (50%) from beyond the arch in the first half, with three three-pointers hit in the half by Brittany Roberts.  Her and April Ehlers each had 10 points in the first half, while Canavan had seven field goals and 14 points in the half.  The Lady Chaps knocked down 51.6% (16/31) of their shots in the first half and held USAO to a 35.7% (10/28) shooting percentage in the half to take a 45-25 lead into the half.

LCU explored their bench in the second half and the three-point shooting cooled down (3/15 in the second half for 20%), but the 10 total three-point field goals matched a season high by the Lady Chaps.  The led as much as 38 points (90-52 with 1:23 remaining) before settling for the 32-point win.

Hampton came close to a triple-double, as she had seven assists to go along with her 11 points and 12 rebounds.  She was one of five Lady Chaps in double figures, as Ehlers and Emily Atkins each finished with 13 points, Roberts had 17 points and Canavan led all scorers with 22 points off a 10-for-13 shooting performance.  USAO was led by 18 points from Liberty Payne.  LCU used a 27-18 turnover advantage to out-score USAO 33-11 in points off turnovers.  They also had 17 offensive rebounds for a 23-8 scoring advantage in second chance scoring.

LCU improved to 5-0 in SAC play and they join Oklahoma City (6-0) as the only two conference teams without a conference loss on the season.  It is the first 5-0 SAC start for LCU since the 2008/2009 season.  LCU is 8-3 overall.  USAO is 3-9 overall and still without a win in SAC play (0-5).  The Lady Chaps have not played a home game since Nov. 7 and will finally return home Thursday to host Oklahoma Baptist University.  The game was originally scheduled for 5:45 p.m. inside Rip Griffin Center, but it has been moved to a 6 p.m. start by request of Oklahoma Baptist.
