OKLAHOMA CITY (December 5, 2011) - Lubbock Christian University guard Emily Atkins has been named Sooner Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Nov.28-Dec. 4.
Atkins, a 5-9 sophomore from Crandall, Texas, averaged 22 points and five rebounds to lead LCU to conference road wins at John Brown and No. 24 Rogers State. It was the first time the Lady Chaps have had road wins at Rogers State and John Brown in the same season since the 2008/2009 season. Against John Brown, Atkins tallied 18 points in the first half and ended the game with 26 points. She co-led the team Saturday at RSU with 18 points. Atkins had two steals, two assists and blocked a shot and knocked down 6-of-11 three-point tries on the week for 54.5%. She also shot 84.2 % from the free throw line, going 16-of-19.
The honor is the first for Atkins in her LCU career. She becomes the second LCU player to claim the honor this season. Teammate Brittany Roberts claimed the award in the second week of the season.
