Houston There Is Not A Problem

LUBBOCK, Texas (December 28, 2011) - April Ehlers tallied 21 points and Emily Atkins added 18 points, as they were two of five Lady Chaparrals to post double-figures in points to help lead No.17 Lubbock Christian University to an 81-59 exhibition win over the Houston Crossover Wednesday afternoon at Rip Griffin Center.
The Crossover, a semi-professional team based in the Women's Blue Chip Basketball League, had a shaky start missing their opening nine shot attempts of the game, while LCU opened with a 9-0 run. LCU led 33-26 at the half after receiving 12 points in the opening half from Ehlers. Britney White, a former standout at West Virginia, opened the second half with seven straight points and tied the game at 33-33. LCU offset the run answering with a 7-0 run of their own before pulling away. Emily Atkins scored 13 of her 18 points in the second half. She opened the game 2-of-5 from the free-throw line before closing the game making seven consecutive free throws. White led Houston with 23 points and they also received 16 points from Alicia McDaniel (Louisiana Lafayette) and 12 points from Azzie Knox (Rogers State). Nicole Hampton (14 points), Brittany Roberts (11 points) and Lena Kusic (10 points) joined Atkins and Ehlers in double-figures for LCU.
Houston is the second team LCU has played from the WBCBL, as LCU played an exhibition game earlier this season against the Dallas Diesel. The Lady Chaps return back to regular season play Saturday in Bethany, Okla. facing Southern Nazarene University at 1 p.m. for a Sooner Athletic Conference match.
