SHAWNEE, Okla. (October 28, 2011) - Lubbock Christian University heads to Shawnee, Okla. this week for a pair of Sooner Athletic Conference matches and the Lady Chaparrals will attempt to complete a feat that no SAC team has been able to do this season and that is defeat No.21 Oklahoma Baptist University in conference play at 6 p.m. Friday night. LCU faces OBU Friday evening and then follows the match Saturday morning facing St. Gregory's University. LCU enters the weekend in third place in the conference and three games out of first place behind OBU.
REWIND
LCU completed a busy homestand last week going 3-1 with the lone loss coming to NCAA Div. II No.14 West Texas A&M. The Lady Chaps completed a pair of SAC matches last week, defeating Mid-America Christian University 3-0 and John Brown University 3-2 in a five-set thriller.
NATIONAL INDIVIDUAL
Jordan Goings, a senior from Aledo, Texas, is the Lady Chaps only player in the national rankings. She is 11th in the NAIA with an average of 10.8 assists per set.
DIG THIS
Lady Chaps libero Nikki Ralston had a big week last week. She recently surpassed 1,000 career digs and enters the week with 1,184, and against MACU last week, she recorded a career-high five aces in the match.
HOLDING THE COMPETITION
Lubbock Christian University opponents are attacking at a .143 attack percentage for the season. LCU has held opponents under a .200 attack percentage for five consecutive matches and 16 of their last 17 played. The highest attack percentage for a Chaps opponent this season was a .314 on Oct. 8 against Southern Nazarene. LCU is 19-2 when leading in kills and attack percentage in a match this season.
K-MART
The last five consecutive SAC Player of the Week honors have been awarded to someone with a first name beginning with a "K." LCU has two players with a first name beginning with "K" (Kacey Deterding and Kristin Fellows). Deterding compiled 31 kills in four matches last week for LCU.
OPENING SET SUCCESS
Lubbock Christian is 18-0 this season when they win the opening set and they are 1-6 when they lose the opening set of play.
FACING OBU
The Lady Chaps may lead the all-time series 6-4, but the last six meetings over the combined prior two seasons have alternated the winner each time. Three of the last four meetings have ended in five sets, including the prior meeting, which OBU won 3-2 on Oct. 1st. LCU won in their last trip to Shawnee. OBU fell to 24-10 earlier in the week after a 3-0 loss to NCAA Div. II Arkansas-Fort Smith. The Lady Bison lead the SAC with a 10-0 mark. They lead the NAIA in digs (2,575) with Cami Weimer ranking third in the NAIA with 710. OBU also ranks fifth in kills (1,600) and eighth in assists (1,431). Kristin Pressley is fifth in the NAIA in kills (475) and Cami Weimer is ninth in digs per set (5.8).
