Lady Chaps Edge Golden Eagles
By: Chris Due
LUBBOCK, Texas (October 22, 2011) - Four Lady Chaparrals had at least 10 kills, led by 14 from Bailey Jones, and Lubbock Christian University edged out John Brown University 3-2 (25-17, 27-25, 25-20, 22-25, 15-12) Saturday afternoon in a Sooner Athletic Conference match inside Rip Griffin Center.
Ironically for Jones, the 14 kills was one shy of her season high mark of 15, which she tallied in the prior meeting this season against JBU. Joining her in double-figures in kills was Maddie Johnson (13), Brittany Johnson (12) and Caitlin Kender (10). JBU had their share of producers, as Erin Didier had a match-high 17 kills and Allie Rankin had 16. Didier also added 16 digs to garner the only double-double of the match. LCU setter Jordan Goings was close to a double-double and a triple-double with 46 assists, eight kills and eight digs.
LCU improved to 19-6 overall with the win and 7-3 in the SAC. The Golden Eagles fell to 4-6 in the SAC and 16-13. The match closed out a four-game home stand for LCU and they went 3-1 over the stretch. LCU returns to action Friday at Oklahoma Baptist University.
