Jordan Goings Claimed All-Tournament Honors at the Coca Cola Classic

PLAINVIEW, Texas (August 28, 2010) – The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals remained perfect to start the 2010 campaign, as the No. 22 Lady Chaparrals closed out the Coca Cola Classic (hosted by Wayland Baptist University) with a pair of victories in straight sets Saturday afternoon. LCU opened the day with a 3-0 win (25-8, 25-13, 25-10) over York College (Neb.) and followed the performance with a 3-0 victory (25-13, 25-19, 25-8) over Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Ariz.).
In the opener, the Lady Chaps produced a whopping .402 attack percentage while holding the Panthers to a .014 attack percentage. While the Panthers had just one player with at least five kills (Chelsey Quigley), LCU had six players with at least five kills. Leading the list was Elissa Loynes, who produced ten kills. Brittany Johnson and Bailey Jones each had nine kills. Jones had a .692 kill percentage with her nine kills coming on just 13 attempts. Additionally comparing numbers, York had just 12 assists as a team, while LCU compiled 43 with Jordan Goings tallying 39 in the three-set match. Goings had 14 in the opening set, with five going to Loynes.
Things were not much different in the second match of the day for LCU. They tallied a .384 attack percentage and held ERAU to a .034 kill percentage. Loynes produced all the damage in the match for the Lady Chaps by amassing 14 kills on 22 attempts (.591 kill percentage). Eight of the kills were registered in the first set. Brittany Johnson (9 kills) and Melissa Green (7 kills on 11 attempts) also had productive results at the net. Goings set up 35 of the team’s 40 set attempts. The front line for LCU did not have one kill attempt blocked, while Johnson had four of LCU’s ten blocks.
LCU improves to 3-0 on the season and it marks the third consecutive season LCU has opened with a 3-0 record. They return to action Friday morning (9 a.m.) on the road against Southeastern Oklahoma State at West Texas A&M’s Lady Buff Classic.
