Lady Chaps Ace Evangels
LUBBOCK, Texas (October 21, 2011) - Nikki Ralston served up a career high five aces and Lubbock Christian University recorded 13 aces to march past Mid-America Christian University 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 27-25) Friday night in Sooner Athletic Conference play inside Rip Griffin Center.
In match records kept over the prior four season, LCU has not had a match in which they recorded over 11 aces, so the 13 recorded Friday is a notch to be proud of. They had six alone in the opening set. The Lady Chaps also had a .500 attack percentage in the opening set to claim the set 25-16. LCU had to hold off a MACU comeback attempt in the second set, as MACU cut into a 20-10 deficit with a 7-1 run to cut the Lady Chaps lead to 21-17 before LCU eventually won the set 25-18. The Lady Chaps had to do the same in the third set, but MACU eventually had a pair of set-point serves. LCU let a 16-8 lead slip away, as MACU scored 14 of the next 19 points and took a 22-21 lead. LCU broke set-point serve twice on the Lady Evangels and used kills from Maddie Johnson and Bailey Jones to set up match-point of their own, which they claimed to win the set 27-25 and the match 3-0.
LCU produced a .295 attack percentage with 42 kills, but no player had a double-figure night in kills. Erin Fisher led LCU with a match-high 26 assists and Ralston led the match in digs with 11. The Lady Chaps snapped their two-game conference losing streak with the win and improved to 6-3 in SAC play (they are 18-6 overall). MACU dropped to 5-18 overall and 1-8 in SAC play. The Lady Chaps return to the floor Saturday at 1 p.m. hosting John Brown University.
