LCU Moves Into Title Match

SHAWNEE, Okla. (November 11, 2011) - The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals defeated both Oklahoma City University (3-2) and Southern Nazarene University (3-1) to advance into the championship game of the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament, where they will face top-seeded and host Oklahoma Baptist University at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
Senior setter Jordan Goings surpassed 1,000 assists on the season with 91 on the afternoon as part of a pair of double-doubles on the day. In the opening match against Oklahoma City, Goings had 48 assists and 22 digs. LCU won despite being out-hit 64-55 in kills. OCU had four players with at least 10 kills, led by 14 by Raissa Santos and Torrie Flynn. Bailey Jones led LCU in the match with 16 kills. Brittany Johnson and Caitlin Kender each produced 12 kills for LCU, with Johnson also adding six blocks. The Lady Chaps had seven aces and 13 blocks in the win.
Goings contributed 43 assists and 20 digs for the double-double in the win over Southern Nazarene. Teammate Abby White also contributed a double-double with a match-high 16 kills and 12 digs. Jones and Johnson each had 14 kills to help LCU produce 57 kills. Libero Nikki Ralston had a team high 25 digs for LCU. SNU received a double-double from Kaylee Piatt, who had 39 assists and 11 digs, and Natalia Oliveira, who had 14 digs and 12 assists. The Crimson Storm were plagued by 27 attack errors in the loss to LCU.
LCU improved to 24-7 with the pair of wins. They will face Oklahoma Baptist University, who went 14-0 in SAC play. The winning team will receive an automatic berth to the NAIA National Championship. LCU, who last claimed the SAC Tournament title in 2009 when they defeated OBU in the title match, is seeking their eighth trip to the national tournament. OBU is aiming for their first SAC Tournament title and first national tournament berth.
