LCU Dusts Up Mustangs

LUBBOCK, Texas (October 17, 2011) - Kacey Deterding produced 11 kills and the Lady Chaparrals received another nine from Maddie Johnson, as the two freshmen led Lubbock Christian University to a 3-0 victory (25-19, 25-13, 25-21) over University of the Southwest Monday inside Rip Griffin Center.
In the opening set, the score was tied 10-10 until LCU went on a 13-5 run to take control and claim the set 25-19. Bailey Jones had all five of her kills in the match in the opening set. Deterding had four kills on five attempts in the second set and LCU used a 9-1 run to open the set and a 6-1 rally to close the set with a 25-13 set win for a 2-0 match lead. The kills continued for Deterding in the final set, as she produced six of the 16 kills by LCU in the set. They received another five by Maddie Johnson in the set and helped LCU pull away from a 17-17 tie to win the set 25-21.
LCU out-killed USW 42-24 in the match and held USW to a .063 attack percentage. Erin Fisher led LCU with a match-high 35 assists and in digs with nine. Judith Gutierrez led USW with a match-high 16 digs. LCU improves to 17-5 overall with the win and it is their third win over USW this season. The Lady Chaps swept the season series, which began with a tournament match in Plainview before they completed a home-and-home series. USW falls to 3-18.
The Lady Chaps remain home Thursday to host West Texas A&M University at 7 p.m. inside Rip Griffin Center.
