Streaks Burst in the 'hurst
By: Chris Due
BETHANY, Okla. (October 8, 2011) - Taylor Jacobs recorded 17 kills and Southern Nazarene University moved ahead of Lubbock Christian University in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings with a 3-1 win (25-22, 19-25, 25-15, 25-22) over the Lady Chaparrals Saturday afternoon.
Many streaks came to an end in the match, which was their first meeting inside Broadhurst Gymnasium since Oct. 17, 1999 because of a scheduling conflict with Sawyer Center. It was the first win by Southern Nazarene in the all-time series since Nov. 17, 2006, ending a streak of 10 straight wins by the Lady Chaps over SNU. The Crimson Storm produced a .312 attack percentage to end an LCU streak at 11 consecutive games in which Lady Chaps opponents had produced an attack percentage under .200. It is only the second time an LCU opponent has produced an attack percentage greater than .200.
Kaylee Piatt (50 assists, 13 digs), Ellen Martin (13 digs, 10 kills) and Natalia Oliveira (13 kills, 10 digs) each had double-doubles in the win for SNU. LCU setter Jordan Goings had the Lady Chaps lone double-double with 48 assists and 21 kills. Brittany Johnson led LCU with 14 kills and four blocks, but Jacobs led the match for SNU with 17 kills.
LCU fell to 5-2 in the SAC, while SNU (21-4) improved to 6-1. It was the first SAC road loss for the Lady Chaps this season, who are now 16-4 overall. LCU remains on the road Tuesday, playing at Wayland Baptist University.
