Lady Chaps Tame Mustangs

HOBBS, N.M. (October 4, 2011) - Lubbock Christian University stepped out of conference play Tuesday night and jumped back into the win column, as they defeated University of the Southwest 3-0 (25-18, 25-11, 26-24) in their first trip to Hobbs since the 2007 season.
LCU balanced their production in the match, as three individuals had at least five of the 34 kills by the Lady Chaps. Freshman Erin Fisher played all three sets at setter for LCU, as Jordan Goings did not play, and had a solid performance with four kills, three aces, two blocks and 27 assists. Maddie Johnson and Abbey White co-led LCU with seven kills, and Brittany Johnson produced five kills and six blocks. Kacey Deterding had three kills and five blocks (three solo blocks) for the Lady Chaps. LCU combined for 11 blocks and nine serving aces in the match. Southwest was led by Stephanie Brown, who had a match high 11 kills.
The Lady Chaps had little problems in the opening two sets of the match, as they used a 13-7 rally to close the first set with a 25-18 win and held USW to a -.219 attack percentage in the second set to claim a 25-11 set win. The third set included six lead changes and the score was tied late at 24-24 until LCU received kills from Fisher and White to clinch the match with a 26-24 set win.
LCU improved to 15-3 with the victory and the loss placed USW with a 2-15 mark. The Lady Chaps return to conference action Friday facing Oklahoma City University at 7 p.m. inside Abe Lemons Arena.
