Lady Chaps Win 25th Straight At Home

LUBBOCK, Texas - Lubbock Christian University extended its home winning streak at Rip Griffin Center to 25 consecutive matches, as the No. 21 Lady Chaparrals disposed of Sooner Athletic Conference rival Wayland Baptist University 3-0 (25-12, 25-21, 25-15) Tuesday night. The Lady Chaps improve to 18-3 overall and remain unbeaten in SAC play with a 7-0 mark.

The Pioneers had quick starts in each set, but they hit roadblocks at the midway point of the sets. In the opening set, Wayland opened with the first two points for an early 2-0 lead. Once LCU tied the set at 3-3, they went on a scoring surge and closed the set out-scoring the Pioneers 22-9 for a 25-12 set win. LCU erased a 4-2 deficit in the second set with a 5-0 run sparked by a pair of kills from Bailey Jones. The two teams traded points in the set, but then Wayland went on a 4-1 run to tied the set at 16-16. The Lady Chaps responded with an 8-2 run for a 24-18 lead, but Wayland did not surrender. Wayland Baptist scored the next three points before a Kimberli Harger attack error led to the Lady Chaps 25-21 set win. The final set saw LCU fall behind 5-2 early in the set. The eventually tied it up 7-7 and the tying point was the first point of a 8-2 run to build a 10-7 LCU lead. The Pioneers called a timeout, but LCU continued to control the set, going on a 10-3 run for a 20-10 lead. A kill by Melissa Green sealed the match with a 25-15 set win for a 3-0 sweeping match victory.

Elissa Loynes led the Lady Chaps with 14 kills and produced the kills with a .419 attack percentage. Jones also posted double digits in kills with 12 for the Lady Chaps. LCU’s Jordan Goings contributed assists on 38 of the 47 kills, and Courtney Yonke posted 23 digs in the winning effort. The Lady Chaps combined for a .316 attack percentage in the match.

Classes at LCU hit the Fall Break, so the Lady Chaps will take time off and will not participate in any matches for another week. On Tuesday (Oct. 20th), LCU will host West Texas A&M at 7 p.m. inside Rip Griffin Center.
