    Tuesday in Tucson

TUCSON (March 16, 2010) – Lubbock Christian University used some early starts in each of their Tuesday games at the Tucson Invitational Games and it led to the No.5 Lady Chaparrals to defeating Missouri Valley College 6-1 and Minot State University (N.D.) 9-0.

The Lady Chaps opened Tuesday’s play with Missouri Valley and began the game with a five-run bottom of the first inning. Cori Enriquez, Amanda Myers and Priscilla FaGaines produced doubles for LCU’s first three hits in the inning and it led to seven hits in the inning.  MVC pitcher Janie Jungermann only allowed a run off three hits after the five-run first inning.  Kayla Van Dieren hit a solo home run to lead off the fourth inning to score the Lady Chaps only run outside the first inning.  LCU pitcher Alyssa Gutierrez improved to 13-2 in the circle, as she surrendered a run on seven hits.  Van Dieren went 2-for-3 in the win and Amanda Parsons was 3-for-3 from the plate.

It was the NAIA’s home run leader Kim Frazier adding to her home run totals in the Lady Chaps meeting against Minot State, as she produced a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning for a 2-0 lead and her 22nd home run of the season.  It turned out to be the only time the Beavers would pitch to her, as Frazier walked in all three of her other at-bats.  Latainna Eltsosie added to the LCU lead in the third inning with a two-run single for a 4-0 Lady Chaps advantage.  Cori Enriquez cleared the bases in the fifth inning for LCU with a bases-loaded triple for a trio of runs-batted-in.  The Lady Chaps added to the 7-0 lead in the sixth inning with a two-run walk-off home run by FaGaines, which activated the run-rule.  FaGaines’ homer was her 12th of the season and it came after walking Frazier.

Frazier, FaGaines and Eltsosie each had a pair of runs-batted-in, with Enriquez coming away with a game-high three in the victory.  Jori Rodgers pitched a complete game shutout allowing eight hits in six innings pitched to improve to 10-0.
