Lady Chaps Bat Around MACU

LUBBOCK, Texas (March 19, 2010) – No.5 Lubbock Christian University combined for six home runs, including home runs 24 and 25 on the season for Kim Frazier, as the Lady Chaparrals swept a Sooner Athletic Conference doubleheader over Mid-America Christian University with a 9-1 and 11-0 victory Friday afternoon at PlainsCapital Park.
The Lady Chaps combined for 27 hits in the two games, which were each limited to five innings with the run-rule in play. Thirteen of the hits were for extra bases for LCU.
In the opener, Amanda Myers hit a two-run home run for her fifth homer of the season in the first inning to help jumpstart the Lady Chaps to a 3-0 lead. Myers added to the lead with a double down the left field line in the second inning and LCU led 5-0 after two innings. Mid-America attempted a rally and had the tying run come to the plate in the fifth inning. Trailing 5-1 in the fifth inning, the Lady Evangels received a lead-off single from Somer Grimes and a double from Autumn Lawrence. MACU held the runners on a fly ball to left field for the first out, and was unable to advance the runners on an ensuing ground ball back to pitcher Alyssa Gutierrez, but the Lady Chaps were not out of the jam. Candice Meza walked and the bases were loaded with two outs. Ashley Newman hit a fielder’s choice to Jen Frazier at third base and the threat came to an end.
MACU wouldn’t have another opportunity of a rally, as LCU struck back with a four-run bottom of the fifth inning. Kim Frazier led off with a solo home run for her 24th homer of the season and Amanda Parsons closed the game with a walk-off two-run dinger to activate the run-rule.
LCU received hits from eight different players and four produced multi-hit performances. Myers finished 2-for-3 with three runs-batted-in, Kim Frazier was 2-for-2 with two runs-batted-in and Parsons was 2-for-3 with three runs-batted-in. Gutierrez improved to 15-2 in the circle, as she held MACU to a run on five hits in five innings of work.
Jori Rodgers and Brandi Luck combined for a five-hit shutout in the second game for LCU. The Lady Chaps offense exploded in the third inning, as 12 batters went to the plate and combined for nine runs on 10 hits. Priscilla FaGaines hit her 14th home run of the season and Kim Frazer connected on her NAIA leading 25th home run in the inning. Stephanie Rendon hit a pinch-hit home run in the fourth inning for her first home run of the season and it closed the game’s scoring.
The Lady Chaps received hits from nine different players, with five enjoying multi-hit performances. Kim Frazier was 3-for-3 with two runs-batted-in, a pair of doubles and home run. FaGaines was 2-for-3 with three runs-batted-in. Newman was 2-for-2 for MACU in the losing cause. Rodgers improved to 12-0 with the win, as she allowed four hits in four innings pitched.
Kim Frazier finished the day 5-for-5 with five RBI. She has 25 home runs on the season, which stands four shy of tying the NAIA single-season record.
Lubbock Christian improves to 28-2 on the season and 9-1 in conference play with the two wins. They travel to Claremore, Okla. on Wednesday to face Rogers State University for a doubleheader.
