    A Shawnee Surge Dooms LCU

    SHAWNEE, Okla. (February 6, 2010) - Taujhnae Travis scored all of her 21 points in the second half and the No.4 Lady Bison closed out their Sooner Athletic Conference contest against No.22 Lubbock Christian University out-scoring the Lady Chaparrals 23-12 over the final 12 minutes for a 73-62 Oklahoma Baptist victory Saturday afternoon at Noble Complex.

    The run to close the game for the Lady Bison was one of two offensive explosions in the second half. LCU opened the second half with a 4-0 run to build a 39-34 lead before OBU went on their first surge of the half with a 14-2 run for a 48-41 lead. The Lady Chaps responded on a 9-2 run to tie the game at 50-50, and that is when OBU closed out the game with a 23-12 scoring advantage.


    The first half was back and fourth, with 15 lead changes highlighting the half. There were a total of 21 lead changes overall in the game. Ashley Coggins had eight of her 12 points in the opening half, including a three-point heave to beat the shot clock for one of two treys in the game. The team nailed eight three-pointers in the game, with five in the first half.


    OBU dominated the inside game, out-rebounding LCU 46-23 in the game. Nineteen (19) offensive rebounds for OBU led to a 21-7 second-chance points scoring advantage. LCU did not have one player with more than three rebounds.


    Travis was joined offensively by Gabriell Mattox, who also recorded 21 points. The two leading Lady Bison scorers also co-led the team with nine rebounds. Ashley Harrell also chipped in 14 points for OBU. The Lady Chaps were led by Renee Wilson and Whitney Wehmeyer, as they each recorded 12 points. Brittany Hampton finished with 11 points in the loss.


    Lubbock Christian falls to 15-7 overall and 10-6 in the SAC with the loss. OBU extended their home win streak to 44 games with the win and they are 20-2 overall and 13-1 in the SAC. LCU returns to action Thursday night at 6 p.m. hosting University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma.
