OKLAHOMA CITY (May 2, 2011) - Lubbock Christian’s Kim Frazier and Meagan Navarrette have been named Sooner Athletic Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week for April 25-May 1.
Frazier, a junior first baseman from Buena Park, Calif., set the NAIA career home run record with Nos. 52 and 53 during a 4-3 win over NCAA Division II No. 23 West Texas A&M. For the week, Frazier hit .400, slugged 1.000, had two home runs, four RBI and three runs scored in a 3-1 week for the Lady Chaps. She was eventually matched by Bethel's (Ind.) Katie Boocher, who hit her 53rd career home run over the weekend.
Navarrette, a freshman from Lubbock, Texas, was 2-0 with wins over WTAMU and Southern Nazarene. She had a 1.08 earned run average with 12 strikeouts in 13 innings. After garnering a win in the circle against WTAMU, the Coronado High School product pitched a complete game two-hitter against Southern Nazarene. She is 16-0 on the season.
The award for Frazier is her second of the season. She also claimed the honor for the opening week of the season. Navarrette's honor is her first of the season. LCU completed the regular season with a 46-7 record and will either be the top or second seed heading into this weekend's Sooner Athletic Conference Softball Tournament in Oklahoma City University, as other SAC teams still have conference games remaining.
