ALVA, Okla. (April 22, 2011) – The No. 7 Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals needed a five-run seventh inning to rally to a 7-3 win in the opening game of a doubleheader and pitcher Alyssa Freight pitched a complete-game three-hit shutout to help the Lady Chaps complete the sweep with a 9-0 win over Northwestern Oklahoma State University Friday.  The wins for the Lady Chaps extends their win streak to 16 games.

In the opener, NWOSU responded from a 1-0 deficit in the bottom of the fourth inning with a trio of runs for a 3-1 lead. Kellie Mason sparked the scoring with a two-run single in the frame for the Lady Rangers. Kayla Van Dieren scored on a wild pitch for the Lady Chaps in the fifth inning and helped LCU cut the deficit to 3-2.  LCU thought they had tied the game in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly by Brittany Kent, but an appeal by NWOSU resulted in Kenzi Carnell being called out for leaving third base early and the score remained 3-2.  LCU finally got the offense going in the seventh inning, as they batted around scoring five runs off four hits and taking advantage of a pair of errors.  Two of the runs scored on a double by Stephanie Rendon.

Van Dieren (2-for-4) and Cori Enriquez (2-for-3) each had multi-hit performances for the Lady Chaps.  Meagan Navarrette improved to 14-0 for the Lady Chaps with three runs allowed in seven innings of work.  She struck out eight batters.

In the second game, LCU out-hit the Lady Rangers 12-3 en route to the 9-0 win in five innings.  They produced four runs in the second inning and added five in the fourth inning.  Six different players produced runs-batted-in for the Lady Chaps, with Latainna Eltsosie leading the Lady Chaps with a pair of RBI.  Rendon had another big performance for LCU with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate.  Priscilla FaGaines (2-for-3) and Melissa Hartkop (2-for-4) each had multi-hit performances for LCU.

While the LCU offense did their part, Freight kept NWOSU off the board for her team-leading sixth shutout and tenth complete game of the season.  She also had seven strikeouts in five innings and improved to 11-2 on the season.  All three hits she allowed were singles.  Freight has not allowed a run in the past 11 innings pitched.

The wins place LCU atop the Sooner Athletic Conference with a 20-4 conference mark, and they are 43-6 overall.  They are two games ahead of Oklahoma City University and Oklahoma Baptist University.  OCU has six games-in-hand over LCU and OBU has two games-in-hand over the Lady Chaps.  LCU returns to play Tuesday making up a doubleheader at West Texas A&M University in Canyon at 4 p.m.
