By: Chris Due
LUBBOCK, Texas (November 4, 2011) - Tony Stock garnered a pair of goals and Lubbock Christian University defeated Oklahoma Christian University 4-0 in their first Sooner Athletic Conference game played in program history Friday afternoon at LCU Soccer Field. LCU advances to the second round and will host Rogers State University tentatively scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday.
Going against the wind in the first half, LCU was able to get a late goal, as Billy Forbes was provided a nice pass from Adam Goodnight and had little trouble putting the ball past OC goalkeeper Tim Spencer from inside the box. The goal came with 1:52 remaining in the half and it was the 23rd goal of the season for Forbes. The goal also stood as the game-winning goal for his ninth game-winner of the season. Just over five minutes into the second half, in the 51st minute, LCU extended the lead with Stock scoring his first goal of the game. He took advantage of a defensive mishap by an Eagles defender and Spencer while chasing a long pass with the wind and was able to get a loose ball and put it into the goal. Forbes had two assists in the game and fed a pass to Stock setting up his second goal of the game. The goal came in the 61st minute and the goals were tallied 10:24 apart. In the 69th minute, the Chaps closed their scoring with Adam Goodnight sending a corner kick to Forbes, who sent a pass to Estevan Ramirez in the box. Ramirez pivoted from the right side and sent a low shot through the defense and past the diving Spencer for the goal.
It was a team shutout for LCU, as Hunter Ganze and Tim Saucedo both spent time as the Chaps goalkeeper (seventh shutout of the season for LCU). LCU out-shot OC 26-6 overall and had a 14-2 advantage in shots-on-goal. Ganze made both saves for LCU. The Chaps, the two-seed in the conference tournament, improved to 13-3-3 overall, while seventh-seeded OC has their season end at 8-6-4. Roger State, the Chaps opponent for Monday, advanced to face LCU following a 2-0 win Friday over John Brown University.
