Forbes Claims All-American Honor
By: Chris Due
LUBBOCK, Texas (December 6, 2011) - Billy Forbes, who was the heart and soul of the Lubbock Christian University men's soccer team this past season, was honored as the program's first NAIA All-American.
Forbes, a Turks & Caicos Islands native, led the Chaparrals program from a ninth place finish in the Sooner Athletic Conference a year ago to a second place finish and a win away from their first NAIA National Championship appearance with a 14-4-3 record. It is almost disrespectful that the NAIA Men's Soccer All-America Selection Committee did not award him anything more than Honorable Mention status, as his documented numbers were statistically better than many players listed among the top-three All-American teams at the forward position. He ranked in the top-10 in eight different NAIA statistical categories. Included in the mix was ranking third in game winning goals (9), sixth in total goals (23) and points (52) and eighth in shots per game (5.2). He scored 11 goals in Sooner Athletic Conference play to claim SAC Player of the Year and First Team all-conference honors.
The Chaps went 14-4-3 last season without a single senior on the squad. That will change next season, as Forbes will return for his senior season aiming to lead the Chaps to an even better finish than the 2011 season.
