Chaps Open Spring Season

LAGUNA VISTA, Texas (February 21, 2011) – The Lubbock Christian University men’s golf program opened the spring season and played their first tournament with newly appointed head coach Gary Belt at the helm, and finished in a share of third place with Facundo Garcia finishing second individually at the Eddie Lucio Invitational hosted by University of Texas – Brownsville at South Padre Island Golf Club.
Garcia, a native of Argentina, was appearing in his first event with the Chaparrals and was impressive co-leading the second round of scoring with a 74 on the par-72 (6,931 yard layout) windy course. He finished with a 151 overall score, which was two strokes off individual champion Armando Viallarreal of No.9 Texas Wesleyan. Garcia co-led the event with six birdies. He also finished tied for fourth in par-three scoring (+3), par-four scoring (+7), par-five scoring (-3). Michael Milliken finished tied for 12th overall and second on the Chaps squad with a 162 (83, 79). He led all players in par-three scoring with a -1.

The Chaps finished in a share of third with host UTB with a final team score of 646 (329, 317) among the field of 11 teams. The Chaps finished 18 strokes behind team champion Texas Wesleyan. The Chaps led all teams in par-three scoring (+21) and birdies with 21. LCU’s next competition is scheduled for March 14 at Harbor Lakes Golf Course in Granbury, Texas.
