LUBBOCK, Texas (January 28, 2010) – Lubbock Christian University men’s golf head coach Trent Phillips announced that Frenship High School’s Josh Mahan has signed a letter of intent to join the Chaparrals golf team.  The signing took place Thursday at Rip Griffin Center on the Lubbock Christian University campus.

Mahan is currently a senior at Frenship High School in Wolforth, Texas and is the younger brother of current LCU golfer Jake Mahan.  Josh will leave Frenship as a four-year letterman with the Tigers golf program.  He has been part of three district titles at FHS and has been instrumental in the Tigers success, as he was the district champion as a sophomore and finished as the runner-up his junior season.  Mahan has four tournament titles to his name and has finished in the top-five in UIL Regional tournaments the past two years.  A former Northern Texas PGA West Area Champion, Mahan has eight junior tournament titles on his resume, and he has competed in several state and international competitions.  He was part of an American team that claimed first place at the International Junior Golf Invitational in Mexico during the summer of 2008.  Mahan claimed the second highest point total at the international event.  Off the links, Mahan excels in the classroom.  He is a National Honor Society member and was an Academic All-District selection.

The men’s golf program at LCU begins their spring season February 14th at the Arizona Intercollegiate, played at the Francisco Grande Golf Course in Casa Grande, Arizona.
