Chaps Tied For Third After Two

CASA GRANDE, Ariz. (Feb. 15, 2010) – Through two rounds of the Arizona Intercollegiate golf tournament hosted by Southern Nazarene University, Lubbock Christian University sits in a tie for third place with No.1 Oklahoma City University. Both schools are trailing California Baptist University by nine strokes at Francisco Grande Golf Course.
The Chaparrals shot 298 the first day of the tournament and improved 11 strokes with a 287 on Monday. Three Chaps are in the top-15 in the individual standings led by Trevor Turnbow, a senior from Muleshoe, Texas, who is in a tie for ninth place with a two-round total of 145. He shot the second lowest second-round score of the tournament with a 69. Landon Waters, a freshman from Lubbock, and Cosme Beamonte, a freshman from Argentina, are tied for 14th place with a two-round total of 146. Beamonte had the lowest opening round score on the squad with a 72. Also competing for the Chaps is Michael Milliken (T-27th, 76-74=150) and Jake Mahan (T-46, 82-72=154).
The 13-team field will play the final round on Tuesday on the par-72 7,275-yard layout. This is the first spring tournament for LCU and they will play in four more tournaments before the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament in April.
