Sample Claims SAC Award

OKLAHOMA CITY (January 16, 2012) - The Sooner Athletic Conference announced their Player of the Week honors and Lubbock Christian University guard Rashad Sample was selected as the Men's Player of the Week for Jan. 9-15.
The Chaps went 1-1 on the week on the road, winning at the buzzer at Oklahoma City and then losing at the buzzer at Mid-America Christian. Rashad Sample had back-to-back career high performances on the week. He set a career mark with 23 points at Oklahoma City, with 17 of his points coming in the first half. Then at MACU, he had 28 points in the second half alone (of a new career-high 30 point performance) and led the Chaps back from a ten-point second half deficit before the Chaps fell by two points. The senior from Arlington, Texas had 8 assists in the MACU contest and finished with 11 on the week. Sample also averaged 26.5 points and three steals on the week.
The honor for Sample is his first of the season and it is also the first for a Chaps member this season. The Chaps are 8-8 overall and 4-5 in SAC play on the season. They begin a four-game homestand Thursday with a 7:30 p.m. contest hosting Rogers State University.
