PLAINVIEW, Texas (November 16, 2009) – Lubbock Christian University closed their Sooner Athletic Conference opener on a 9-2 run and with the final four points in the last four seconds of the game to escape Hutcherson Center with a 70-69 win over Wayland Baptist University.

Coming off of a 12-day layoff, LCU was slow to get their offense going. The Pioneers opened with a 16-5 lead six minutes into the game. They led as much as 18-6 before the Chaparrals responded with a 15-4 run to cut the Pioneers lead to 22-21.... Full Story


LUBBOCK, Texas (November 3, 2009) – Kenny Hewitt nailed five of Lubbock Christian University’s 11 three-point field goals and posted 23 points to lead the Chaparrals to an 81-47 victory over University of the Southwest (N.M.) Tuesday night at Rip Griffin Center.

LCU opened the game with three pointers from Douglass Williams and Hewitt to help jump out to an 8-0 lead. The Chaps quickly surged to a 26-13 lead, but the Mustangs came back with an 8-2 run to cut the Chaps lead to 28-21. The single-digit lead wouldn’t last long, as LCU went on a 10-0 run highlighted by a pair of three-pointers from Hewitt for a 38-21 advantage.... Full Story

 
LUBBOCK, Texas (October 31, 2009) - A day after setting the program’s single-game record for three-point field goal attempts, the Lubbock Christian University Chaparrals went into the record books again in their second game of the season. The Chaps matched a program record with 14 blocked shots Saturday afternoon in a 79-47 win over Dallas Christian College inside Rip Griffin Center.

The record had not been touched since LCU blocked 14 against Oklahoma Panhandle State on 12/9/79 in Larry Hays’ final season as the Chaps head coach. The 14 blocks was a Rip Griffin Center record.... Full Story

 
LUBBOCK, Texas (October 30, 2009) - Douglas Williams posted 21 first-half points and the Lubbock Christian University Chaparrals attempted a program single-game record 45 three-point attempts in a season-opening 98-64 victory over Hillsdale Free Will Baptist College (Okla.).

Williams had a solid start, going 8-of-10 from the field in the opening half. His minutes decreased in the second half, but he contributed defensively with six rebounds to complete the double-double with 23 points ten rebounds in the game.... Full Story

 

OKLAHOMA CITY (October 20, 2009) - Oklahoma Baptist University is the solid preseason favorite to win the Sooner Athletic Conference, according to the SAC Men’s Preseason Coaches’ Poll released Tuesday.

The Bison received 10 of 12 first-place votes after going 20-2 in the SAC and 28-5 overall last season.

“I think all that really means is that the coaches believe we’ve got a chance to have a good team,” said OBU coach Doug Tolin. “There are a lot of good schools in our league that can compete and hopefully we fit right in there with them.... Full Story
