The 2011-2012 academic year marks Paul Hise's eighth year as Lubbock Christian University's Athletic Director. In his first year at the helm, Hise saw one of the most successful years of athletics in school history. The LCU volleyball team won its eighth consecutive Sooner Athletic Conference title, the baseball team won its fourth SAC title, and both the men's and women's basketball teams made repeat trips to the NAIA National Tournaments.
In his second year, the Chaps did even better as the volleyball team won yet another SAC title, baseball made its seventh trip to the NAIA World Series (finishing third), and the women's basketball team advanced to the NAIA National Championship game, the farthest any LCU basketball team has ever gone.
Three years ago, the Lady Chap Basketball team made its fourth consecutive trip to the NAIA National Tournament after winning the Sooner Athletic Conference regular season title and the Lady Chap golf team advanced to the NAIA National Tournament; both feats were firsts for Lubbock Christian. The outburst of success continued two seasons ago, which was highlighted by LCU's inaugural softball program claiming a NAIA national title. Volleyball opened the season claiming another SAC title and Men's and Women's Basketball each finished with over .500 records, including an "Elite Eight" finish by the Lady Chaps. The spring witnessed women's golf finishing with their best National Championship finish in school history and, along with softball's success, the baseball team finished 53-4 and reached a No.1 ranking for the first time since 1984.
The 2008-2009 school term witnessed seven of nine athletic programs qualifying either the team or individuals for the National Championship for the respective sport. The year was book-ended with volleyball matching their best finish in program history (Elite Eight qualifiers) and baseball claiming a NAIA title for the second time in program history.
The success has continued over the past two seasons. Baseball, women's golf, women's basketball and softball have each qualified for the national tournament or championships. In 2010-2011, the women's golf program had their best finish ever, women's basketball and softball each qualified for the "Elite Eight" and baseball claimed Runner-Up at the NAIA World Series. The success was claimed while also having to lead changeover in five sports, as finding a replacement for retiring men's basketball head coach John Copeland and fielding the additions of men's and women's soccer programs was a tiresome task.
Prior to taking over the LCU Athletic Department, Hise had been the head basketball coach at Sweetwater High School in Sweetwater, Texas, where his teams advanced to the Bi-District Championships twice and earned Area and Regional Quarterfinal berths as well. Prior to working in Sweetwater, Hise also held head coaching posts at Lockney and Brownfield, and an assistant coaching position at Abernathy. An LCU basketball player from 1987 to 1991, Hise graduated from LCU with a Bachelor of Science in Education degree certified to teach History and Kinesiology, and has since gone on to complete a Masters of Education in Sports Administration degree from Texas Tech University.
Paul is married to the former Ms. Carol Pendergrass, who played basketball for the Lady Chaps from 1990 to 1994 and was inducted into the LCU Hall of Honor in 2000. They have two daughters, Jordan (16) and Jacey (13).
