LUBBOCK, Texas (February 18, 2014) – Megan Sullivan and Morgan Colburn hit back-to-back homeruns in the bottom of the sixth against Abilene Christian to give Lubbock Christian an 8-0 victory, and Ashton Bell knocked in a grand slam versus Western New Mexico in the first inning to ignite the Lady Chaps to a 13-3 win over the Mustangs Tuesday afternoon at PlainsCapital Park.

Colburn collected three homeruns on the day, while Sullivan, Bell, Addison Ard and Katlin Reed each recorded one of their own. LCU (9-3, 0-3 Heartland) outhit their opponents 24-to-12 and committed zero errors within the two contests.

Sullivan acquired her first hit of the day in the bottom of the first against the Division One Wildcats (2-5, 0-0 Southland), doubling to the center field fence on a 3-2 pitch. Colburn followed right behind her, blasting a homer to left field for an early 2-0 Lady Chap lead. Ard dinked a popup into the third baseman's glove, but the Wildcat collided with a teammate, leading to a dropped ball and allowing Bell to score another run.

The Wildcats attempted to storm back in the second inning, as Katera Eltsosie belted two of ACU's batters, sandwiching a single by Emily Seidel. With the tying run on first, the Lady Chaps escaped with two fly outs and a strike out by Eltsosie to retain a 3-0 advantage.

Ard cracked her first home run as a Lady Chap in the fourth, and Diana De La Paz tagged up to score on a sacrifice fly by Mallory Koschany to put LCU up 5-0 before the bombs by Sullivan and Colburn ended the game early in the bottom of the sixth.

Eltsosie (4-2) took the win with three hits and four strikeouts while Hannah Null (1-2) suffered the loss, giving up seven hits, one walk and four strikeouts.

Against WNMU (2-9, 0-0 RMAC), Koschany tallied LCU's first hit with a single through the right side, while Colburn and Jessica Loiacano each earned walks to load the bases for Bell on her grand slam to right center. A single by Reed up the middle brought in De La Paz to increase the Lady Chap lead to 5-0.

The Mustangs were able to get on the board in the next inning by way of an Alexis Lawton double to right center that allowed Mary Othon in for a run. Colburn countered with her third homerun of the day in the second inning to give LCU a 6-1 advantage.

WNMU's Ricki Gentry singled up the middle to score Stephanie Higgins to cut the lead to 6-2 in the third before LCU fired back in the bottom of the fourth with a fury. The Lady Chaps' first seven batters each placed a single on the field with Koschany, Colburn and Sullivan all making it around for three more scores, upping LCU's lead to 9-2. A Shlay Denison sacrifice fly added another run, and a blast by Reed to right center, her first in an LCU uniform, racked up three more for a 13-2 Lady Chap lead. The Mustangs were only able to muster one more run in the fifth, ending the game at 13-3 in favor of LCU.

Abbi White (2-0) kept her record intact with five hits and two strikeouts while Chyler Imai (0-2) remained winless with four hits and three walks.

The Lady Chaps and Mustangs will face off again tomorrow in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. at PlainsCapital Park.
