LUBBOCK, Texas (January 6, 2014) – The Heartland Conference announced Lubbock Christian University guard Haley Burton has claimed Heartland Conference Player of the Week honors in women's basketball Monday.
The junior from Shallowater, Texas led LCU on the week with 34 points for an average of 17 points a game in wins over St. Mary's and Texas A&M International. She was 54.2% from the field (13/24) and averaged 3.5 assists per game. Burton fell a point shy of a career high with 22 points against St. Mary's and then posted 12 points against TAMIU, as one of six Lady Chaps in double figures.
The honor for Burton is the first weekly honor of her career. LCU is the only conference member to have two different individuals claim the honor. Nicole Hampton is a two-time recipient of the honor this season. The Lady Chaps begin a six-game road trip Monday, riding a nine-game winning streak to Portales, New Mexico to face Eastern New Mexico at 7:30 p.m. (Central) in their final non-conference contest of the season.
