LUBBOCK, Texas (December 16, 2013) – Lubbock Christian University men's soccer goalkeeper Erik Mozzo was named to the Second Team 2013 NSCAA College Division Men's Scholar All-South Region list.
Mozzo, a native of Beaufort, S.C., holds a 3.41 GPA and is majoring in Business Administration / Management. The second-year Chap and Clemson transfer is also having a solid season outside the classroom on the soccer pitch. Mozzo native led the Heartland Conference in save percentage (80.4%) and shutouts (7). His seven shutouts was a program single-season and career mark. The senior goalkeeper also ranked second in GAA (1.07) and was third in saves (74). His on-field performance led to NSCAA All-Region Honors and Second Team All-Heartland Conference credentials.
He is the first Chaparrals member to earn academic honors sanctioned by the NSCAA. Mozzo had also received CoSIDA Academic All-Region honors this season. LCU finished the season 11-5-1 with a conference best 8-1-0 conference mark.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) throughout his or her career; start more than 50 percent of all games and be a significant contributor to the team; be nominated by an institution that is a current NSCAA member; be a junior or above in academic standing at the current institution; be in his or her second year at the current school if he or she is a transfer student; and submit the Junior or Senior College Scholar All-America GPA Certification and Signature Release Form.
