LUBBOCK, Texas (December 9, 2013) – Nicole Hampton claimed Lubbock Christian University's first Heartland Conference women's basketball weekly honor Monday, as she claimed Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors.
Hampton, a junior point guard from Canyon, Texas, led LCU to a 2-0 week with conference road wins over Arkansas Fort Smith and Rogers State. She averaged 22.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists during the week. Against UAFS, she tallied 14 points and helped LCU to a 103-78 win, which was the biggest offensive output (103 points) for a road conference game in program history. She followed with a career-high 31 points at Rogers State in an 84-65 win. Hampton, whose previous career high was 29 points, was 9-of-13 from the field, 3-of-3 from three-point range and 10-of-11 from the charity stripe Saturday at RSU. She also had six assists and a pair of steals. Hampton produced 17 of her points in the opening half and then followed with a 5-for-7 shooting performance in the second half. On the week, she combined for 11 assists, 17 rebounds and 12-of-21 (.571) shooting.
The honor is the first women's basketball Heartland Conference weekly honor in program history. Hampton was a two-time Sooner Athletic Conference Player of the Week last season. The Lady Chaps have won six straight contests and are 8-1 on the season. They take a 4-0 conference record to Oklahoma City Saturday, facing Oklahoma Christian in a conference tilt.
