About Ecclesia

The Royals are 3-6 on the season, with wins against Champion Baptist College, Southwest Adventist University and Rhema Bible College. In their most recent game on Tuesday night, Ecclesia lost 94-59 to fellow Heartland Conference member Rogers State.

Coach T.K. Smith begins his first season as head coach for the Royals and brings two new assistant coaches to program, Mike Pouncy and Franklin Featherston.

Hitting The Mark

LCU has been quite accurate from the field in its first spell of games, connecting on nearly 60 percent of shots attempted, including 47 percent from downtown. Nine Chaps are hitting at least 50 percent of their buckets, with freshman Isaac Cardona shooting at a .778 clip.

Cardona Making Presence Felt

Freshman Isaac Cardona is making the most of his 16.0 minutes a game, scoring 8.8 points per contest (fourth highest on the team) while converting on almost 80 percent of his field goals (14-of-18). In Tuesday's win at Eastern New Mexico, Cardona was nearly unstoppable in the first half, scoring on five of his seven attempts, including a stretch of three straight for the Chaps. Cardona also hit 4-of-5 from the free throw line and contributed two assists and two steals in LCU's 72-69 win.

Johnson Up and Down

After finishing 0-for-6 from the floor in the season opener against Open Bible College on November 15, sophomore Quay Johnson exploded against ENMU on November 19 for 23 points on 8-of-10 shooting, including 4-of-6 from beyond the arc and 3-for-3 from the free throw line. Against the University of the Southwest two days later, Johnson scored a game-high 15 points on 5-of-10 shooting, hitting 3-of-6 from deep and 2-of-2 from the charity stripe. In the victory at Eastern New Mexico on Tuesday, he disappeared, not even attempting a field goal in the first half, and finishing the game 1-3 from the field. However, his only field goal was crucial, coming with 11:18 left in the contest to give LCU a 49-46 lead. Johnson is tied with AJ Luckey, averaging 11.5 points per game, second to Eli Baker's 15.8.

Conference Leaders

LCU's high-octane offense early on in 2013 has the Chaps leading the Heartland Conference in several statistical areas through November 25. The 101.7 points put up per game leads the league, as does their +34.7 scoring margin. The team is knocking down .774 of their free throws to sit atop the conference - same as their .595 field goal percentage. The Chaps dish out 22.3 assists per game for the number one spot, as well as knock down 10.3 three-pointers per game. Despite a relatively smaller front line, the Chaps are first in rebounding defense, allowing 24.3 boards from their opponents and are blocking a league-high 4.7 shots per game.

Rounded Out Scoring

LCU has three players averaging more than eight points, led by Eli Baker's 15.8 ppg, while Quay Johnson and AJ Luckey are each scoring 11.5 per contest. Isaac Cardona sits at 8.8 per game, followed by 8.5 from Anthony Brancato and 8.0 by Ridrell Holman.
