THE EARLY MOMENTUM
Lubbock Christian University and Newman University meet up Saturday afternoon for a Heartland Conference contest and both teams are looking for a 2-0 conference start, as each team had a victory Thursday night in their conference openers. LCU (3-1, 1-0) defeated Oklahoma Panhandle State 94-44, while Newman (2-2, 1-0) topped Texas-Permian Basin 75-70. Haley Burton led LCU in their win with 20 points, as she was one of five players with at least 10 points in the game. The contest is LCU's final home game for the calendar year. Their next home game is Jan. 2, 2014.
 
ABOUT NEWMAN
The Jets are preseason picked third in the Heartland Conference and they enter the game with a 2-2 record. They defeated Texas-Permian Basin Thursday on the road 75-70 with 29 points from Alexandra Ciabattoni. The Jets are coming off a third place conference finish last season (6-6) and they were 11-16 overall. They feature the conference's leading scorer in Alexandra Ciabattoni, who averages 23.8 points and nine rebounds a game through four games on the season.

Not only has LCU never played Newman, but the Lady Chaps have NEVER faced a Kansas based program.
