LUBBOCK, Texas (November 18, 2013) – For the eighth time in 11 weeks, Lubbock Christian has been recognized for its accomplishments in volleyball, with Erin Fisher earning Setter of the Week and Kacey Deterding being named Hitter of the Week.
This is the third time in 2013 the duo has received the honors within the same week. This week's award marks the sixth time Fisher has been acknowledged, the most of any player in the conference. This is Deterding's fifth honor, whereas no other athlete in the conference has won more than four times. Collectively, the Lady Chaps have accumulated a dozen Player of the Week awards, including Amy Edwards' Hitter of the Week and Mallory Powell's Setter of the Week. The next highest team total within the conference is six awards, received by the Heartland Conference's first place team, UA-Fort Smith.
Fisher handed out a 140 assists in last week's matches versus #6 West Texas A&M, St. Edward's and McMurry, averaging 12.7 per set. She also recorded 11 kills, 36 digs and three blocks. Fisher's assist marks of 31, 47 and 62 were all match-highs.
Deterding accumulated a .324 hitting percentage in the three matches to go along with her 47 kills. Against St. Edward's and McMurry, she had identical stat lines of 18 kills and 17 digs in each match. Her 18 kills and 17 digs against the Hilltoppers were match highs as were her 17 digs versus the War Hawks.
The victory against McMurry on Saturday wrapped up the season for the Lady Chaps and cemented their second-place finish in the Heartland Conference. Because LCU (17-12, 13-5) is currently a provisional member within the NCAA, the Lady Chaps are not eligible to compete in post-season play, despite their impressive finish during their first year in the new league.
