LUBBOCK, Texas (November 7, 2013) - A 25-0 run to open the game allowed Lubbock Christian University to cruise to a 98-46 win over Texas College in an exhibition game inside Rip Griffin Center Thursday night.
The opening surge by the Lady Chaps spanned the opening seven minutes of the contest. LCU was 8-of-9 from the field to open the game and 10-of-14 during the 25-0 run. Cristen Simmons ended the run for the Lady Steers and her bucket jump started a 10-0 run.
Texas College would have seven field goals in the first half and they were all from three-point range. LCU, who led 59-22 at the half, held the Lady Steers to a 0-for-15 shooting mark inside the perimeter in the first half. Their first eight field goals in the game were three-pointers, and their first two-point field goal did not come until 16:07 remained in the second half. Texas College finished the game with 11 three-point field goals and three buckets inside the arc. LCU held Texas College to a 3-for-29 (10.3%) inside the three-point line in the game. The Lady Chaps forced 27 turnovers.
The Lady Chaps were 54.8% (40/73) from the field in the game. All 12 players for LCU figured in the scoring. None of the starters played more than 17 minutes and starter Kelsey Hoppel had 17 points in 17 minutes, with a 7-for-9 shooting performance to lead all scorers. Seven LCU players had eight or more points, including a 12-point outing from Hannah Harbin. Morgan Dean nearly had a double-double with nine points and eight rebounds, and Allison Szabo produced eight points, seven rebounds and four blocks.
The contest wrapped up LCU's exhibition season. The Lady Chaps went 2-0 during exhibition play. They now prepare for their season opener Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. hosting Eastern New Mexico University.
