ODESSA, Texas (November 7, 2013) – Six career-highs were established for Lubbock Christian in a back-and-forth five-set win against the University of Texas of the Permian Basin, with extended sets playing out in the final three games Thursday night at the Falcon Dome. Tyler Webster and Ariel Froeschl recorded new personal bests in kills with 18 and 12, respectively, while Erin Fisher tallied a new total in assists with 66, and Kacey Deterding, Fisher and Webster all set new highs in digs with 28, 23 and 22, respectively.

As a team, the Lady Chaps set a season-high in total kills with 76 and eclipsed the 100-mark in digs for the first time in 2013, registering 124 digs. The win against the Falcons ends the longest Lady Chap losing streak of the season at three. Deterding documented a game-high 19 kills and Amy Edwards added 18 in the triumph.

A pivotal third set saw the Lady Chaps fall into a 7-3 hole before climbing back to within 9-7 and Webster provided the momentum for a string of six straight LCU points for a 16-15 lead. The Falcons then surged ahead 19-16 on two kills and a pair of LCU attack errors. A kill by Ashlyn Broussard and two from Webster tied the set at 19-19 before UTPB went up 24-21, putting themselves in good position to take the set. However, a kill by Froeschl, ace by Fisher, a Falcon attack error and a Deterding kill pulled LCU in front, 25-24. A Falcon timeout did not deter the Lady Chaps, as another UTPB attack error handed LCU a 26-24 set three victory.

Edwards started off hot in set four, contributing a block alongside Fisher and putting down two kills for a 3-0 Lady Chap lead. Trailing 8-4, UTPB rallied and put together a 12-3 run to gain the lead at 16-11. LCU fought back, and kills by Broussard and Webster sliced UTPB's lead to 19-18. An ace by Christa Daniel tied the game at 20-20 before the two teams began trading point for point. A kill by Deterding gave LCU a one-point advantage at 25-24, but her next attempt was blocked by UTPB's Morgann Davis and Melissa Lusk. Another Falcon block put UTPB up 26-25, and a kill by Terra Peil iced the Falcon win to force a fifth set.

Things started off well for LCU in the final set, with Webster and Edwards each tallying two kills for a 4-0 Lady Chap lead. A Deterding kill extended the gap to 10-5, but the Falcons strung together 6-2 run to pull within 12-11. A kill by Webster put LCU on top 13-11, but UTPB blocked two Lady Chap attacks to knot the score at 13-13. Edwards and Lusk traded kills, but Deterding came through at just the right time, recording her final two kills for the game and match victory at 16-14.

Set one provided the largest margin of victory on the evening, allowing the Falcons to piece together an 11-1 run for a 22-11 lead that the Lady Chaps were unable to recover from. LCU led 9-5 before allowing UTPB to take control and soar to a 25-17 win.

In set two, the Lady Chaps ascended to a 10-3 lead, completed by a Froeschl kill. The Falcons were able to pull within five at 23-18, but it was too late, as LCU earned a 25-19 win.

The Lady Chaps will play their final three matches at home beginning with non-conference opponent #6 West Texas A&M on November 12 at 6:30 pm.
