LUBBOCK, Texas (October 30, 2013) – The Lubbock Christian University baseball program conducted "Scout Day" Wednesday, which provided their current roster of player an opportunity to display their skills to Major League Baseball scouts.

Chaparrals head baseball coach Nathan Blackwood organizes the event with area and regional scouts to present an opportunity for scouts to see the Chaps talents and give the Chaps an opportunity to catch the scout's eye. Many representatives from Major League Baseball programs, including scouts from the Cardinals, Red Sox and Rangers were in attendance at Hays Field to watch the Chaps conduct a pro-style workout.

The workouts conducted of running (60's), bullpen sessions, pop times for catchers, outfielding throwing sessions, infielding defensive sessions, in-and-out and batting practice. The event followed with a team meal, as the event also closes the fall workouts in preparation for the 2014 season.

This past summer's draft witnessed a program single-draft record four Chaparrals selected by Major League Baseball programs. Fabian Roman (Cincinnati Reds), Christian Vazquez (Toronto Blue Jays), Jace Chancellor (San Diego Padres) and Derek Loera (Tampa Bay Rays) were each selected. The four draftees placed the number of Chaparrals selected in the MLB Draft at 36, with 12 selected under the head coaching reigns of Nathan Blackwood.
