MANSFIELD, Texas (October 26, 2013) – The Heartland Conference held their cross country championship and Lubbock Christian University was allowed to compete, but they were unable to have their team scores recorded and individuals could not receive some of the top individual honors. They were allowed to compete for All-Conference accolades and the men's program was represented with Joey Villarreal claiming All-Conference Team honors and Isacc Placencia earning All-Conference Honorable Mention.
Villarreal, a junior from Amarillo, Texas, finished fifth in the race with a time of 25:49 and was 34 seconds off the lead. Placencia, a junior from Lubbock, finished in 14th place with a time of 26:17. He was running through an injury and persevered to claim a spot on the Honorable Mention team. The honors are the first Heartland Conference awards claimed by the LCU cross country program.
The Heartland Conference had 10 teams at the meet but only six could compete for the overall team championship. Four of the teams, which are Oklahoma Christian, McMurry, Rogers State, and Lubbock Christian are all provisional members for NCAA DII, therefore, are not allowed to win Conference Championships. The runners from each of these schools were allowed to earn All-Conference honors by where they finished in the event.
The top 12 runners from the event were named to the 2013 All-Conference Team, while the next five runners were named Honorable Mention All-Conference.
